What's the first thing I do when I'm feeling better? Go out and see another movie.

The director of this film Paul Thomas Anderson (PTA) is known for his past films: Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Punch Drunk Love. The past three films were about "the valley" in California and set in modern times. In this film he decided to shift his focus. It's a period piece loosely based on Upton Sinclair's novel Oil!.

To be honest, 2007 was a fantastic year for film. We were given real gems. This one is going to make 2007 go down in the history books as being one of the best years ever. Daniel Day-Lewis was so amazing and refreshing that I forgot it was him. PTA, has come into his own with this film making him one of the best directors working in America.

Please see this when it comes out on DVD. You won't like the theme, you won't like any of the characters, and you won't like the ending. However, it's worth every single moment. The driving force of greed permeates every single character turning them into the worst people in the history of humanity.

Oh, as a side note. It's not for anyone under 15. The movie is bloody, hence the title, but it's not terrible.

I LOVED it. Yes, it's definitely not for the faint of heart or anyone wanting a "feel good" flick. The direction was fantastic, and I'm saying this as someone who hasn't always been a huge Anderson fan. Daniel Day-Lewis was amazing (definitely Oscar worthy, IMO), and I really liked Paul Dano's performance as well. I was especially riveted by the first hour or so of the movie, when he was starting up the oil company and building the well. So fascinating, and really well done.

I have fallen in LOVE with Paul Dano. He was good in Little Miss Sunshine, but this is such a stand out preformance.

It was nominated for an Oscar too... I'm so happy about that.
