Over the river and through the woods...
So, a few month's ago my husband broke the law
and ripped off the tag from our comforter. He didn't cut if off...he RIPPED it off, which in turn ripped out the seam. So, for the last few months's we've been losing a little bit of stuffing every night, which the cats love to play with. In fact, I think one of the is trying to get inside because the hole keeps getting bigger. Today, I realized it was about 8 inches long, so I figured I'd fix it.

Now, of course I don't own a needle or a spool of thread
, so I borrow both from my MIL. She offered to just fix it on her sewing machine...would only take a minute or two...but, it's the principle of the thing, right? How hard could it be? I got a patch in sewing when I was in Girl Scouts...30 years ago...I'm sure I can manage to sew a straight seam on a comforter...

The adventure started with me trying to get the tread off the spool. It was a new spool so the thead was stuck in that little notch on the top. I pulled. I plucked. I pried. Nothing. That little piece was laughing at me and getting all curled up to boot! Finally, after throwing it against the wall a few times (that didn't work either, but I felt better) my brain cells finally kicked in and I realized I have a very small, sharp object that I can pry it out with.

Ok...so I now have thead (that I can barely see)...now to thread the needle. Right. When did they start making the eyes so small??

Finally, I got it threaded after about 10 tries. I'm now ready to sew. I have more than enough thread to sew 8 inches. I, however, forgot to take into account knots. And, the first one happened after 3 stitches, so there goes a 1/3 of my thread. Yes, I had to rethread my needle when I was only half way done.

Oh, and cats apparently can see a needle and thread better than I can, because of course I had help! In the process of trying not to permenantly sew a cat paw to the comforter, I accidently poked myself with the small, sharp object...not once, but twice! Thank god the fabric is red!

So, I am now cross eyed, have sore fingers and very grumpy...but at least I have the comforter mended! It only took me 45 min. I think next time I will just go up to wal-mart and buy a new one!

You should submit that to a humor column somewhere!
Oh, I don't know about that. But, if I had a video of it believe me it would go on America's funniest videos!

Yup, i'm pretty pathetic when it comes to sewing. It's a secret around this house....and none of our friends/family know this -but Colin is the one who uses the sewing machine, not me!
He's actually really good at sewing
He hems my pants all the time for me lol. He'd kill me if he saw me posting that though
(he learned how to when he was in the Navy and he was on his on).

The most frusterating thing about that catnip banana though was the moment i got it sewed back- Fosters took his nana back again and destroyed it
I need to order them another when i think about it!
