I brought another stray home on Friday evening that I trapped. I have trapped and brought home several now, but this one is very tame. I have it in a rabbit cage downstairs until the other cats get acquainted with it. The last cat I did this with, it worked fine and they were all acquainted by the time I turned her loose with the other two females and neutered male. This time, however, none of the cats will even go downstairs (their hangout) at all now. They are completely ignoring this new cat. I know it has only been a couple of days, but it's completely the opposite reaction that I had expected. The last time, they would walk around the cage, smell, growl, etc. They are not going anywhere near this one. I do not know the sex of this cat yet. It is either a spayed female or possibly a nuetered male (it's a longhair). I have been feeding it for the last couple of years and it has never had any kittens.

Anyone have a guess on the cats reactions?

Thanks,
Kim

Put the cage where the cats are NOW hanging out so they cannot ignore the new cat. Or if the new cat will let you pick it up and hold it, hold it where the other cats can see it until they get used to the fact there is a new cat in the house. They will in time.

Moving the cage upstairs would not really be that easy. Holding it could be a volatile situation. I have only picked it up and moved it a foot or two and it was ok with that. Another time I just picked it straight up (a test run with battle gear adorned) and I could feel his legs stiffen up, but he didn't fight. I put him back down, because my question had been answered. No he hasn't been held before. I don't think he's ready for cuddle time just yet.

I did sit downstairs with it for a little while the last couple of nights. One cat will sit in the distance and watch. Last night I had a string and was playing with it and two of the other cats ventured closer to play, so that's a good sign. They got within 5 feet or so.
