Hey everyone

Cello is at the emergency vet right now, I think for poisening. Last night I heard something fall int he middle of the night and I got up and looked around but I didn't see anything so I went back to bed. At 8am I heard cello laboured breathing and he had vomited, and was heaving so I got up and immediately knew he had to get to the vet. When I went to the front door I found the culprit. Laundry soap had fallen at my front entrance inthe middle of the night?! I think he must have walked through it (just can't help himself) and probably licked off his paws?!?!

Anyways he is there now. I think he'll be OK. No fever. The vet thinks most likely he may have triggered an allergy with something in the soap, or maybe ashthma. I'm going back now to see the X-ray to make sure thats what it is (he has been known to eat inappropriate things, had 1.5 feet of christmas ribbon removed from his gullet a couple weeks ago)

Anyone have experiences like this????

I really hope he's going to be ok

Sending for Cello. I haven't had any experiences that could help you though.

The poor little guy isn't doing so well. He is still at the vets and the X-rays of his lungs didn't look great, but still no fever so still likely a severe allergic or asthmatic reaction. (Lungs were a greyish white and cheesy looking for those of you who know how lung X-rays should look -- black) anyways he is on steroids, antibiotics and and oxygen line and it'll just be touch and go. He is still very laboured breathing but he started the siamese screeching protest which is good because it may mean he is feeling a bit better, atleast perked up) I am going back at 7 to see how he is doing (12 my time right now) and the vet said he'd call if anything happened

I just feel so upset that I didn't find it when it happened last night, I was half asleep and just figured it was in another apartment when I didn't see anything right away

Sending lots of good luck and healing vibes.
Don't blame yourself. Something like this could have happened to anyone.

I really feel for you.

Dexter had an acute asthma from inhaling clay litter dust when he was young.
It sounds a lot like what Cello is experiencing.

The first thing the vet did was a lung e-ray to rule out heart failure.
Then Dexter was given oxygen and a steroid shot.
His acute asthma attack cleared up rather quickly.

Calming vibes for you and healing vibes for your precious Cello.

Did you have to continue to give him steroids etc. for awhile?? or forever??

He ended up having a long term steroid shot of Depo Medrol.

Finally I ended up changing from clay to Worlds Best Cat Litter.
He has not had another attack since.

If Cello is diagnosed with chronic asthma, do a search in the health forum for asthma and start a thread for Cello.
Chronic asthma can be controlled.

Has Cello had similar symptoms before?

Sometimes when he is laying down I can hear him breathing, not laboured, but like a 'fat old man'. I thought it was because he was overweight, but he has lost some weight since I've had him.

He's never had an issue like this before, I've never seen laboured breathing before, but sometimes I can "hear" him breathing, not like any of my other cats....
