I told DW yesterday that when they got all settled in out there in L.A. that things would be different. (Of course I knew this from reading posts on The Cat Site.)
For a while we had three cats sharing a litter box. Our youngest, just three months old, would not use her private litter box because she wanted to do whatever Persi did. So she used what Persi & Alley shared. But only for peeing. Not for pooping. That went into the bathtub. Since we spent a great deal of money on this cat and have had trouble with daughter not taking care of cats in the past, we were mortified.
I kept saying over and over that Shelby is going to be OK when she gets to her new home and has her own private litter box.
I just received a phone call that after 36 hours there has been no pooping in the bathtub, only in her private litterbox.
I think there is a lot to be learned here that other people have mentioned. Some cats will share a litter box for pee but not for poop. And that seems to be the answer in my case.
