...WIND CHILL ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 12 PM CST SUNDAY...
A WIND CHILL ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 12 PM CST SUNDAY.
NORTHWEST WINDS OF 10 TO 20 MPH COMBINED WITH TEMPERATURES RANGING
FROM ZERO DOWN TO AS LOW AS NEAR 20 BELOW ZERO...WILL CREATE WIND
CHILLS OF 20 TO 30 BELOW ZERO. THESE DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS WILL
CONTINUE THROUGH MID DAY SUNDAY BEFORE WINDS DIMINISH.
THERE ARE TWO IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE. FIRST...DEPENDING ON HOW
COLD IT GETS TONIGHT...THERE IS A VERY REAL POSSIBILITY THAT WIND
CHILLS MAY EXCEED 30 BELOW ZERO NORTH AND WEST OF A LINE FROM
DUBUQUE TO IOWA CITY AROUND SUNRISE SATURDAY MORNING. IF THIS
WOULD OCCUR...A WIND CHILL WARNING MAY BE NEEDED FOR THAT AREA.
SECOND...WIND CHILLS ON SATURDAY ARE EXPECTED TO BRIEFLY CLIMB
ABOVE ADVISORY CRITERIA FOR A FEW HOURS ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE
INTERSTATE 80 CORRIDOR. HOWEVER...WIND CHILLS ARE EXPECTED TO
REACH ADVISORY CRITERIA AGAIN WHEN THE SUN SETS ON SATURDAY.
A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS
WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS...RESULTING IN FROST
BITE AND HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU MUST
VENTURE OUTDOORS...DRESS IN LAYERS COVERING EXPOSED SKIN.
FROSTBITE WILL OCCUR IN A FEW AS 20 MINUTES IN THESE CONDITIONS.
