I posted yesterday about being unsure of getting a kitten because she seemed shy, well we got her and now that she's home with us she is just the opposite, she wants to be with us all the time! She meows A LOT. And I dont know why. We took her from her mother and siblings and she is our only pet so Im thinking maybe she misses them? She will not leave our site and when she does she meows like crazy. Last night she slept in our bed and anytime she went down on the floor she started crying again like she couldnt remember that we were right there. If I go to another room she cries until she can find me. Is there anything I can do to help her? She is a great kitten she is litter trained and very friendly. She is 8 weeks old and an orange and white tiger cat. We did however, find out that she had fleas when we got her home last night and my husband went out and got flea shampoo and we had to give her a bath. She was very scared and was shaking for about 2 hours afterward but she was good thorughout the whole thing. We arent sure if the fleas are all gone so I made an appointment for Monday to get her an advantage treatment at the vet. I hope this gets rid of them for good and they said not to do anymore shampoos or treatments until then because she is so young. So is there any advice on why she is meowing nonstop? Thanks!

At 8 weeks she really misses her mom and siblings. They are not prepared emotionally to be separated - its better to adopt at a minimum of 10-12 weeks. 12-16 weeks is even better.

If you can, I'd go get another brother or sister from the litter as a companion. She was taken away and put in a strange place - no wonder she follows you around and keeps crying. Please get another kitten ASAP.

Most people on this site will tell you 8 weeks is too young to bring a kitten home. I brought Shelby home at 8 weeks however but kept her in a "safe room" because we have two other adult cats and yes she cried all the time she was in her safe room. When we let her out the crying stopped. She wanted to explore the entire house and Persi served as her guide. Persi was only 7 weeks when we brough him home and we had no other cats at the time but still confined him to his safe room in which he cried all night. I think that probably kittens that young really do miss their siblings and would tend to cry more than older kittens. I am sure this will pass in time though.

That's because it IS too young. As GK explained 10-12 weeks is far better for the kitten.

Before I knew any better I got a kitten at 8 weeks and he meowed a lot at first too, my current 3 came at 11-12 weeks and there's a huge difference.
