So, last night, I discovered this amazing pet store on the other side of the river.... before, the only relatively high quality food we could find was Nutro. Kit's been doing really well on it, but I want to vary his diet a bit and was hoping to find higher quality stuff, at least in terms of wet food. So we went on an adventure yesterday and discovered the coolest store ever

I bought him a few cans each of Eagle Pack, Merrick, and one other that I totally forgot, haha. So far, the shrimp flavor of Eagle Pack went over like a lead balloon
I gave him some Merrick Thanksgiving Dinner for breakfast, and he seemed to like that a little more.

I guess my question is, is it really disruptive to his system to try some new wet foods a few days in a row? Should I go back and forth between what he was eating and the new stuff? The dry food is the same; he gets that for lunch and sometimes for dinner. He gets wet food in the morning, and sometimes at night.

Try giving a little of the new mixed in with the old. Or put the two side by side on the plate. Slow transiting to new foods is best.

You shouldn't have any difficulty with changing wet foods. Changing dry foods seem to be more of an issue with most cats and should be done gradually over a period of 7-10 days. Sometimes if folks have been feeding junk food like Fancy Feast, they may have to add some FF to the new food and gradually withdraw the FF but if you've only started feeding wet, just keep trying quality brands until you find the ones they like, just as you are doing.

I've always been lucky in that I can change our cats over to new dry food immediately with no issues.

I feed Merrick's Thanksgiving Day Dinner and their other favourite is Granny's Pot Pie. Neither of our kitties will eat anything with fish or seafood which isn't a bad thing.
