I'm probably totally off, but: Interest would be paid on the points in the bank, and since it's paid every other day, I arrive at 6% = 600, for a grand total of 20,600 points.

Not correct. I have to wait 8 hours to give the answer and you may be in bed but the answer will still be here in the morning. It is going to take a long time to explain.

Isn't the interest going to depend on what day it was last calculated in relation to the start of the week that you take off???

Well since I bombed on the math question....(at least I wasn't alone!
)....all I really want to know is....
Since I answered the first question from your persian (it is answered in ragdoll, I hope she can read it) that I'm pretty sure I answered correctly...do I get a few points for that one?!?!

I wouldn't think so, since you would be signing out on the interest earned day.
Unless...the vbplaza bank is closed on Saturday and Sunday...then it would!!!

Your total pts would be:

20,612.08 if interest is calculated on the 2nd, 4th, and 6th days of the week you are off

20,824.32 is interest is calculated on the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th days of the week you are off

I have an Excel spreadsheet, if I need to show my math ;-)

You now sign off for exactly one week to the very minute. You sign on. What are the point totals now?
Hopefully I can explain how to arrive at the correct answer in such a way that you will never forget it. (Today has been a lot of fun for me, a former math teacher).

1. Go to vbPlaza and select Bank

2. Since the question says you were just paid interest five minutes ago then the bar at the bottom would read:

Next Bank Interest: 1 day, 23 hours, 55 minutes, 00 seconds until next payment of 400 points.

Note that it says bank interest so your Current Bank Points: total would read 20,000 (not 10,000) and 2% of that is 400. So when will the 400 points be deposited? In 1 day, 23 hours......?
Maybe. But in this case NO because the question reads that I sign off right away. If I am not signed on at the time the clock hits zero, the points are not deposited until I perform an action, in this case sign on. You can prove this by looking at the clock which tells you when the next points will be made to you. The clock starts counting down from 48 hours again when you sign on after being away a while .

3, Look at the Bank page again. Note that the clock is not counting down but if you leave and reenter the Bank, the time has counted down. If you just sat there and stared at this page for the next seven days NO points would be awarded to you until you performed an action. Once the clock counts down to zero you receive points and by performing an action start the clock counting down again.

4. The correct answer to the bank total is simply 20,400.

5. What does this all mean to you? If you know when your clock is about to hit zero and you are perfoming an action at that time, you will collect the maximum amount of points from the interest payout. In fact, I have received an interest payment while writing this. And the clock has started couting down from 48 hours again.

6. You absolutely do NOT accumulate interest by staying away (after your clock has run down to zero). I know this only all too well!

NO WINNER TODAY!!

I figured that I was way off, but am looking forward to seeing the "right" solution!

Strange, I have had it posted for over half an hour. Look above here for Answer, the dreaded answer!

Yes! You are paid 400 points when you log back on and your clock starts running down again from that very second. That is why we all have separate clocks, so that in theory none of us would stay away for more than 48 hours because anybody that stays away for longer than 48 hours is losing points.

The 20,400 represents a one time payment of 2%. The clock goes to zero. When you log back on it will be 48 hours before you can receive more points. If you are not logged on doing something after 48 hours you have to log back on and do something to start your personal clock running down to zero again to collect points.

I thought you were only paid interest on the balance in the bank though? So wouldn't it be 200 in interest?

Well, fortunately for me, nobody guessed 10,200 either. The only way this will be solved is somebody with a calculator that is due to be paid in the next few hours put an even amount of points in each account. Perhaps it doesn't matter. But one thing matters is that KatKwiz always wants to put out the correct information in the end so somebody with a calculator and willing to take the risk, tell me your numbers and I will duly report same (in the morning). My whole point in whichever we decide (10,200 or 20,400) is that you stop earning points when your clock runs down to zero.

Please somebody who is about to be paid solve this for us but don't risk too much money (points)!

Yes it is just the pts in the bank b/c when you make a deposit the amt of your next interest increases. So it would be 200 in interest.

And you are correct. I can remember now seeing people with so many points not in the bank, not drawing ANY interest. I can remember now thinking they need to move those points into the bank so they can earn the 2%, they get nothing unless they are in the bank.

The final answer IS 200 points in interest total. I keep my bank so close to my total points that I would never notice a difference. Having 10,000 points earning nothing would not be wise (if you like points). That was exactly the other point I had wished to make other than the clock running down. Now that we have that cleared up, I think it is fair to say we all learned something today.

Persi says we need to send you the points for today and I agree since you reminded me of what I forgot and we both know you will spend them for a good cause. So...here come 2628 points.
