I am a sugarholic, I'm always craving sugar non stop. My doctor thinks it's because alcoholism runs in my family and there is sugar in beer and stuff. Well, I hardly drink so he's says instead of getting my sugar from beer I turn to junk food. I literally want sugar all the time.

That's weird. Maybe you have an addictive personality. I do too. I'm addicted to this site for one thing. I've heard that it is genetic.

I was actually reading this magazine about why people craze salt and it's becuase salt has this enzyme that releases endorphins. Anyway, just thought that that was interesting.

Maybe you are experiencing low blood sugar which is why you crave sugar? How is your diet? What types of foods do you generally have for each meal? Do you have 3 meals per day plus 3 snacks? When is the sugar craving most intense?

You can prevent the low blood sugar, and hence the craving, by not eating so much sweet or processed food. Eat more fibre-rich whole foods, like wholemeal or granary bread, muesli or granola, fruit instead of chocolate (sorry!). And donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t forget those sugar-packed fizzy drinks, theyâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve got to go too.

Me too, I love chips
They are my weakness and I can't have them in my house.

Alcholism doesn't really run in my family..it starts at my mom so not sure if its in my genes or not

Sugar in itself can cause cravings. When you eat alot of sugar/simple carbs, your blood sugar level goes up (naturally), and your body produces insulin to counteract it. Since sugar and simple carbs are quickly broken down, the extra insulin makes you hypoglycemic, and you crave sugar again. It's a vicious cycle. You need to eat complex carbs, proteins, vegetables to help keep your blood sugar level at a steady, normal state, and your physical sugar cravings should subside.

Salt is just sodium chloride, I doubt it contains any enzymes, though it may nudge the body to produce endorphins.

Studies have shown that people who crave alcohol often crave sugar.

I would go check if you've got a sugar imbalance, though, and then start weaning yourself off. It's like any other addiction, take it away and eventually the craving is much less.

You may want to look into a lower carb/balanced carb, higher protein, higher fat diet ("not to lose weight but as the way you eat" definition of diet).

A very good book out on the topic of the food pyramid and the huge change in thinking from thinking carbs/simple sugars cause weight gain to fat being the culprit is Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes.

Fat provides satiation along with having good health benefits (depending on the fat of course)...at any rate, those of us who crave/gain rapidly when eating sugars and simple carbs, find that desire dissipates with the use of the kind of diet I mentioned above.

I've read somewhere that people have some type of bacteria (or maybe it was enzymes)in their stomach that is the source of our sugar cravings. Some people have a heighten level of these and so crave sugar more.

Look into using natural sugars rather than the refined sugars (check out macrobiology). You'll keep your weight down doing macro and still be able to curb your cravings.
