I think Beauty's losing her sight

Recently I have noticed she has really had to peer at the food in her bowl and rely on her sense of smell a lot more.

I tested her eyesight and for her right eye she didn't respond at all. When I tested her left eye she tried to turn her head away.

Way to test a cat's eyesight:

Gently hold your cats head and cover up one eye. Slowly move your finger towards your cat's eye and wait until he or she blinks. That's the point they can see your finger..

Repeat for other eye.

Aww, how old is she? Maybe you should have a vet check her out to be sure.

She's elderly. She's always shied away from people moving towards her which I think is to do with her possibly being chased by little boys in the past. It could be to do with her eyesight as well though. She might have had trouble seeing when she first came to us but I can't be sure.

As soon as we can she's going down the vets.

Sorry to read that your kitty is having sight troubles. But they can still learn to cope, so don't panic.

Yeah, blind kitties are pretty good at learning their way around. Just don't change things too much, use signals that she can hear, and she should learn to get around.

Definitely get her to the vets when you can. Sometimes hypertension can be the cause of changes in sight--it's usually treatable with a daily pill.

your test may depend on how calm your cat is. i suggest get someone to cover one of her eyes, and from a distance someone make a large movement as it is certainly going to cause a surprise responce
