I'm not understanding WHY fruit is in cat food? Maybe its something
obvious and I'm just missing it,but I"ve never had a cat that likes
fruit...so is it something that is put in to make humans think its a good
product? I read above, any antioxident? Is it possible that fruits and
some thing like tomato in cat foods could cause problems?

Also, what is the % of cats that end up with crystals/bladder problems?
I had never heard of a cat with this problem until I was on this site. I'd
never seen a sign my cats(indoors and farm cats)have ever had this
problem. I read something yesterday(can't remember where,of course)
that said the rate of these types of problems in cats is jumping up a LOT
from what it used to be 20 yrs or so ago.Why would that be? Cat food is
getting better quality,I would think...

Also these changes with Max,decided for me to stick with the NC Indoor.
I have noticed my adult cat's poo looks hard(almost constipated)on this
type of food and he hasn't been before...any ideas..

I should have started a new thread...sorry.....

lol..

many cats get utis and crystals .. I guess about 10% of total cats much higher % for males that are intact ... mostly since owners desided to keep them inside and feed them dry food .. in the wild or even most farm cats catch much of their food which is high moisture... dry food is low moisture and in yrs past had HIGH levels of magnesium and Ash ( mineral %).. yes cat food is in some way s better the true premiums get better while the grocerys on a whole are getting IMHO worse ... Most folks feed grocery food... IMHO adding a good amount of wet food will aid in preventing many issues....

The poop on NC should be dry.. One is digestabilty less coming out = drier plus the pre and pro biotics that aid in digestion and also cause a drier and less smelly stool... the ?? would be is the cat straining>>??.. if NO then the food is working well

the berrys in the max are for UTI and antioxident benifits.... they are natural acidifers

tomato is fine the GREENS are posion...

Well, don't look at the PetSmart in Hoover in Alabama, it's all gone now... lol
. I got 3- 20 lb bags for $17 (card discount and $3 coupon on bag) and got 4 bags from Pet Supplies Plus for $22 each. I'm set for at least 7 months, lol!
One of my cats is super sensitive to fish, so the fish oil worries me a bit still (silly, I know, but...
), and mine like bigger kibble too (not to mention, make half the mess!). So much for the new rubbermaid boxes I had for organizing Christmas decorations...they are housing 20 lb bags of cat food now.

I'll have to get myself out to Petsmart & Petco tomorrow morning then.
Hopefully they'll have a small bag left...

Stimpy seems to have a sensitivity to fish too, which makes me nervous. But I'm hoping fish oil won't bother him. We've tried a few other foods with fish oil that bothered him less than the ones that had fish meal in them. It does seem a common thread in the dry foods he barfs are rice flour or oat fiber, and fish meal.
I've always been amazed that Corn & Wheat don't bother him.

We're going to give that new Iams formula (Healthy Naturals) a try. I like that the new Iams is a moderate calorie, lower fat (but not too low) food. Those seem to be hard to find...Stimpy doesn't do diet food.

I agree guys bummer on the smaller kibble.
I will call as suggested and complain!
When I opened the bag on original max 1st time boy
I was really suprised how big it was
compared to others.
My cat will not eat crumbs.
I told another company that their kibble was too small and turned
into crumbs it does seem to be the norm. WHY?
I just bought a 20 lb. bag a couple weeks ago, so I wont know
how the new formulation is for a while.
It does not sound like to much change, but hey you never
now how that darn cats are, she loves the original taste
and it has helped her UTI situation which is what I am most interested
in.

Just wanted to post a quick update:

My girls took to the new formula very well. I slowly switched them over 3-4 days, as I didn't have enough of the old food left over.
They seem to enjoy the taste, perhaps even more than of the old formula.

Litter box odor is non-existent. It was very much so there on the old formula.

Will definitely be sticking with this food.

We also had very little of the old food to mix, but everything seems OK so far. One puke from 3 cats in a week isn't bad
Hopefully that wasn't Nutro related...these cats tend to eat whatever they find on the carpet so I'm not too concerned right now. I really hope this formula comes back with the UTI certification and isn't a big change from the old.

the pieces are A LOT smaller so you may need to elevate dishes or use flat one s to slow them down... % of UTI stuff are unchanged

I had hunted for the clearence bags back in Jan... my stores never put them on clearence... they just went from having the old to the new it seemed...

Anywho... My cats have been on the new formula of the Max for about 3 weeks now & in that 3 weeks we JUST finished off a 8 lb bag ( so they are BARELY eating the stuff... only eating it because they are STARVING!... they pick at it... and eat it as a last resort because they are so hungry...
) The litterbox STINKS AGAIN! ( I moved to Max because we had stinky poo issues with Horatio) there is loose stool going on with someone... it is a complete mess with this new formula

OH & I noticed the OLD formula was a 20lb bag for the big bag... the NEW formula is a 16lb bag for the BIG bag

Sharky HELP!

I need something UTI friendly, to get my kitties systems back on track
