Went to pick up my usual supply of Nutro Max and found brand new bags that say (improved taste, new look).

Adult Roasted Chicken formula says nothing about helping urinary tract health now.
Hairball Roasted Chicken is now INDOOR formula.

Since all the wording has changed, I am assuming the formula changed too.

Anyone know whats going on and why the changes?

We're sampling other foods now. Natural Choice doesn't agree with Stimpy, and lately he's been having issues with MAX Cat too (although I think it's just Stimpy scarf-n-barfing with the MAX cat--he has a tendency to do that).

Given Nabu & Stimpy's notorious pickiness, I'm not happy with changes.
We've gotten samples from other companies to try. We've still got a few pounds of MAX Cat left, so we have time to try other stuff before we're out of the old formula. And if they don't like anything but Max cat I'll buy that again, but I'd rather not...the last time I fed something that was "reformulated," the cats weren't amused with the reformulation.

The new Max Cat Indoor reads like it would be a barf-fest at our house.

Is this the dry food, I assume? The Roasted chicken says "Menhaden Fish Oil" now...I don't remember it saying that before- am I wrong? I have 3 cats that can't have fish due to urinary issues, and I just switched to this a couple of months ago...

Gah! I've got to go and see if I can find (and it's an hour round trip driving time!) a couple of bags of the "old" stuff...

It also looks like they removed the lamb meal.

Here's the old Max Cat Adult Roasted Chicken from the website:
Chicken Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Wheat Flour, Ground Rice, Poultry Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Ground Whole Wheat, Natural Flavors, Lamb Meal, Yeast Culture, Potassium Chloride, Salt, Choline Chloride, DL-Methionine, Taurine, Dried Egg Product, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Vitamin E Supplement, Inositol, Niacin, Copper Sulfate, Ascorbic Acid (source of Vitamin C), Manganous Oxide, Garlic Flavor, Riboflavin Supplement (source of Vitamin B2), Potassium Iodide, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (source of Vitamin B6), Thiamine Mononitrate (source of Vitamin B1), Biotin, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (source of Vitamin K activity), Folic Acid, Sodium Selenite.
I'm mostly concerned my cats won't like it anymore, it looks a lot more like Natural Choice, which Nabu hates & Stimpy barfs. They used to agree on Max Cat.

I know I asked you this before sharky.....but the bags no longer say "UTI safe/certified" whatever it was they said before. Are they still UTI safe is my biggest question?

NO not really like NC .. ONE all NC are wheat free ....

ADDITIONS to Max cat the wheat to the "indoor" .... CHICKEN , cranberries , blueberrys and some formulas Barley malt( I will ask about that
) , l canitine in a small amount, fish oil ( adds omega 3 fatty acids previously not found in max out side of the fish meals... fish oil SHOULD NOT be a UTI issue

Biggest item dropped LAMB meal

It is NOW being tested .... could be six months till the certification could be 18 months... IT is UTI friendly like many of the foods I recommend ... at the present time the PURINA s will be the only CERTIFIED... you will note the mag is the same as is the ca and phos in the senior ....

The new formula seems to have more fiber (beet pulp/tomato pomace/oat fiber), more rice and more plant vs animal derived oils. I suspect that this formula will also be lower in fat. I would be interested in seeing the guaranteed analysis for both. This is a downgrade IMO.

I don't know where the OP got their ingredient lists from, but those are obviously the ones I was commenting on. As quoted in my post.

That is what I thought too.

Usually companies reformulate to cut cost and increase profit. Of course the cost to the consumer stays the same. Science Diet is one example, they are forever changing their formulas.
It got to the point I just stopped buying their canned food altogether (for a while they had a decent formula pate that my cats enjoyed, but that didn't last long). They went from chicken and chicken-byproducts, to pork byproducts and who knows what else.
And I think the cost per can went UP after that.

That's a bummer about the kibble size. The larger size helps slow down Stimpy. There isn't soy in the adult roasted chicken formula that I see. That would be a major issue for Nabu.

We're trying a bunch of stuff, but if they pull their usual routine I'll probably be back to Max Cat.
My cats seem to have their own ideas on what food I should be buying.
So far Orijen, Felidae/Platinum, and Wellness Healthy weight are disapproved of, luckily I had samples and a few lbs of Nutro left.
