We sent my father a package via Purolator for his 85th birthday. It weighed 7 lbs. (coconut macaroons I made for him) and we took it to Purolator on December 22. We paid $103.81 for two-day delivery.

He discovered the package of (by then) old cookies ten days later, on January 1! They didn't even ring the doorbell, they just left the package by the door on December 31!

The receipt says "transit time: 2 days." We were mislead. I just spoke with Purolator and they said we can't count weekends (!) or Christmas, or Boxing Day. That's still way over two days, so they blamed the rest of the time on customs.

I am so furious. We are out $100+ for nothing.

Please do NOT use this company! He probably would have gotten the package sooner if we used regular mail.

I sent my Grandma a present using Xpresspost and it cost me $11 (for a little pin) and she got it 11 days later and it was supposed to be sent in 3 days. I called them and they refunded my money, I just got the cheque in the mail today.

I would go here and send a late delivery request.

Unfortunately during the Christmas mailing rush, which seems to be when you sent the parcel, delivery often takes more time. When they say "2 days", they mean "2 business days", so holidays and weekends add time. If you send via courier on a Friday, the parcel will not be delivered until Tuesday (2 business days), because the day of sending is not counted. If the Monday and Tuesday happen to be holidays, then the parcel will not be delivered until Thursday. Which is still within the required time period that they said "2 business days".

I like Purolator and haven't had a problem. One delivery company that I don't like is "UPS" because they gouge us Canadians for outrageous "Brokerage Fees" for preparation of customs papers which we have to pay before they will hand over the parcel. And sometimes that fee is 100% of the value of the parcel being shipped.

Purolator however, should have rang your Dad's door bell to hand him the parcel. Most parcels require a signature upon delivery. I would complain about that. Maybe Purolator will give you a credit or a refund for part of the shipping costs based on that?

It would have been fine if he got it on Thursday, but he didn't get it until the next Tuesday.

I have never had problems with Purolator and I have had to send toxic chemicals over the border.

I did have a problem with UPS recently though that really opened my eyes. One of the ladies in our office needed a new keyboard and since our mother company in Georgia looks after our IT requirements here in Canada, they just shipped her up a new keyboard. However, the new IT fellow who shipped it just put her name and our company address (didn't put our company name on it). UPS told me I would have to pay them $40 COD to get the keyboard. I had the money on hand but I refused. I asked why and he told me it was because our corporate name wasn't on the commercial invoice and that in order for them to deliver without the fee I had to have a NEW revised commercial invoice forwarded to them with our company name on it. Talk about being ripped off!

I can not beleive that they didn't knock to tell him the package was there. That is very unprofessional. and very inconsiderate. I haven't had a bad experience with perolator, but Canada post priority mail, I send some important legal papers that needed, to be signed and returned, to vancouver It took 5 days to get there and 6 to return, missing a deadline that cost me at lot.
