We had people over the other night who used the downstairs toilet where we keep Da Bird hidden. Apparently the last person didn't close the door properly...

We woke up in the morning and I said to DH - "That's weird. None of the kitties slept with us, and nobody's been in to say hi yet".

After a while, the still hadn't been in, so I went looking for them. They were all sprawled out near the bathroom door, which was open. Stumpy had realised the door was ajar (it would have been mostly closed or we would have noticed), and obviously taken her opportunity - she's the only one clever enough to know where to find the toy.

She had dragged it down onto the ground where they all had been playing with it. Only one feather was missing, but they were all askew, chewed and sucked on. They slept pretty much all morning - they must have been exhausted after playing with it all night... So now, we need to get some refills. I'm so glad they sell refills!

Smart Stumpy! I really, really want to get one of those now.

Kristi, Da Bird is a cat wand that cats go nutters over. From what I've heard it looks like a bird to them, hence the name "Da Bird."

So do I. But they aren't sold in Canada that I can see. At least they aren't where I live.

And I no longer have a credit card so I can't just order online from the USA.

I'll ask my brother if he ever drives to the States for a weekend and if he does I'll see if he can pick up one for me in North Dakota.

My Lily has done that to Da Bird a few times, killed it unsupervised.

All cat owners would die if there weren't refills!

I would certainly be at a loss!

I got a variety pack of three different refills from Doctors Foster & Smith. So far the fur attachment has been the most popular...it looks like a little mouse when you drag it along the floor and it's not quite as fragile as the feathers

Yeah, we've sent a few Da Birds to cat toy heaven around here, too. Forest is especially rough on them. Fortunately, I've talked the pet store up the street into stocking them, so I have a supply of refills close at hand.

I don't think we have them in Australia. Can someone post a pic so I can see what they're like.

This is Da Bird:

It's just a long fibreglass rod, with a long string, and some feathers on the end. The way the feathers twirl as it's flung around is absolutely mesmerising to cats.

Kalikat - I don't believe it's in Australia, I just went back there for christmas and took 2 of them with me for my aunts and a friends cat because they'd never seen them before either. My aunt said there's no way her big, old boy would play with a toy, and he loved it!

Thanks for the info sarahp. The only thing I've seen similar is the wand with feathers attatched to the end, that judges use at cat shows.
Hope you enjoyed Christmas at home.

David loves da bird he eats the feathers,
Sun I changes the attachment and he grabbed the feathers in his mouth and when I took it from him he still had some feather leftovers in his mouth.
It was soooooo funny to watch him spit the feathers remains from his mouth blah blah ptooey ptooey. he was so funny
. Mittens chases it too this toy is awesome it even gets couch potato shadow to move and groove, all 18 pds of her da bird is great

What I really like the most about the da-bird play is the way when Zoe catches it in her mouth (a very tight grip she doesn't want to let go at all), sometimes we let her take it and she "PRANCES" off with her "kill". Her head is up her tail is up high and proud and she has the most hilariously proud trot as she goes off with the wand dragging behind her!

It's also fun to watch all the air time she gets jumping after it, but the catch is my favorite....

We've just given the ratbags what's left of the Da Bird feathers. They think all of their christmases have come at once....

Da Bird is sold here, but man, refills are expensive! The wand itself (with it's original feathers) is $13, which is okay and reasonable, but each refill is $9. Not quite worth it when your kitty mauls the thing in just 5 minutes, lol. So my girls have only gotten Da Bird only a few times in the past year (I always lose the wand or it breaks or something, so instead of just the refill, I got a new wand)
