As some of you know, I have a beautiful grey Persian named Kitty. She was a stray that I took in from the streets and her previous owner hadn't spayed her. I've had her for about two and a half years now, but I never had her spayed because of her age. She is probably around 11 years old.

Lately she has been going into heat constantly. The never ending wailing is bad enough, but what's even worse than that is she has started spraying. There ain't nothing like coming home from a long day of work to discover cat pee all over your walls and clothes. I talked to my vet (and to some of the helpful people here at TCS) and it has been advised that spaying her is still the best option. I know that getting your cat fixed is no big deal and virtually everyone does it, but I'm still nervous as hell because Kitty has never had any kind of surgery before and she is pretty old to undergo this sort of procedure. There are definitely increased risks when performing surgery on a cat her age. Wish us luck. Tomorrow my beloved Kitty goes under the knife.

Under the cats, mostly.
los of for both of you. I know the risks are increased, but in todays medical world, they're significantly smaller than they were 10 years ago.
Spaying Kitty really is going to be the best thing for her - and for your home
- so fingers crossed that everything goes according to plan.

I am sure she will be fine, I have had an amputation done on a cat of that age, with no isssues, and that is much harder on them. You really are doing the best thing for her though, but please do regular breast checks on her. Good luck.

Lots of . Actually, 11 isn't all that ripe an age for surgery, provided the vet does a careful check of her general physical condition beforehand. I've witnessed older cats successfully recovering from tooth extractions, tumor removal, etc.. Good luck for Kitty!

Sending {{{{prayers and vibes}}}} all goes well for Kitty and for you Bless you for rescuing her & getting her this necessary medical attention!!
BTW, if it was a concern that she was still in estrus, you could have her hang out with some neutered males & see if she gets mounted. That's what I had to do for Andrea, & even tho JC wasn't "sucessful" it took her out of heat.

Good luck!! I know sometimes its a little more risky to do it when they're a little older, but if you think about it you wont have to worry about her getting cancer or anything in her grrrly parts!! Sending and
