So, my cd collection is growing far past my ability to store them..

Any ideas for limited space, cat friendly and wallet friendly cd storage for a large volume of cds?

Thanks guys!

I especially like this one:

I actually bought some of those for my kids to use in their apts. They are much heavier than I expected and the holes do not match the studs in the apt walls. We had to drill some holes in the CD holder to match the studs - and now they are great!

I bought a rack at Giant Tiger last week that was $20 and it holds 170 cds I think it said. I use it for dvds because the shelves can go wherever you want them. I really like it.

what I did, and this is probably not the option for everyone as most like to keep the cases, was take them all out of their hard cases and put them in a large leather "book" I pitched all the cases, I don't need them

My older son's truck was broken into and the CD notebook was stolen, among other things. Because he had the CD cases for all of the them, insurance covered the cost of CDs. So, if you can keep the cases...

If my cds are stolen, I will just replace them myself..(I am a claims specialist for State Farm)

Yea you're a nut for keeping the cases! They do nothing but collect dust in my house.

I cut the lids off the Arm&Hammer Fragrance Free clumping litter boxes & lay the box on its side & voila! cheap and very sturdy storage!!! Not very pretty, though. DVD cases fit, too!

Just look around for nice shelves on sale or ask a family member to make something as a gift.

The booklet style holders are a bad idea, there's a little strip piece of plastic that runs across the top of each sleeve opening that leaves scratches. Unless you don't mind ruining and replacing your collection frequently, never put real cds or dvds in those (cdr copies and dvdr copies don't count since you can recopy them).

Myself, I can't afford to let my cds get ruined - it's difficult too replace limited prints and imports, so I don't even play the original cd more than once or twice.

How many CD's are you talking about here?

My DH is the CD junky and we literally have hundreds of CD's. I found a bookcase with glass doors at a second hand shop, then went home and built additional shelves because normal book cases don't have enough shelves. I stained the shelves to match the case so you can't really tell unless you look close that it was modified.

I got it at the one in Ingersoll. They had lots of them. Hopefully the one near you has it.

I want to get a spare hard drive, rip all of our cds to it, then keep them in their moving boxes in the closet. Before we moved, they were in milk crates since college.

Almost all of Mike's cd cases were stolen years ago, so most of his cd's are in a book. Except his Misfits box set and a couple miscellaneous cds.
