Hello all

Ive been lurking around here for a while and finally decided to join. I brought home two kittens on Saturday. As a mom of 5 guinea pigs, I know how much crap there is out there food wise, andhow even the most popular brands can be the worst nutrition-wise. Is the same true for cat food? Right now I am feeding purina kitten-chow, and friskies wet food.

Now the shelter told me that they were sharing one can in the morning and one can at night, and have dry food available to them all the time. The more I read, the more I dont know if this is what is best. Do they need wet food? I have read such mixed responses. Should I cut down/eliminate it? It is much cheaper to go on a dry diet, but I want to do what is best for my kittys.

Thanks!

Thanks for the site. She emphasizes the water factor and one question is why can't you just add water to the dry food?
I am going to order some herbal books for pets that I'm sure will have raw diet recipes too. I have tried to give my cats chicken, but alas it was cooked (silly me!) and they did not take to it very well!
Until I get straight with a do it myself diet, I also wonder what quantity of food I should be giving them.

My brand new kitty also came to me using Purina kitten chow. Millions
of kittens have been raised on this and have done just fine. My concern
with this kitty food is that the fat content is only 12.5%..that seems
really low!Does anyone have any input on the fat percentage?
Most people here recommend wet,but my one cat won't touch anything
but dry and he's eating a good qual dry so I don't worry. He eats Nutro brand.
Its not too much $$$. I think most of the cats on this site eat better than
their owners do...hee hee!
