I was at the vet last night with Misty for her eye again (that's a whole other story!) and we were on our way out.

While I was waiting for the bill and her new medicine a middle aged woman came in with a large, but young, pure bred golden retriever.

The dog was so excited he was pulling on the leash, barking and jumping everywhere. The woman mentioned that they were “trying to train him but he is uncontrollableâ€. She asked to be put in a room right away so she could let him off leash but there were none open at that second.

The dog would not calm down and she proceeded to yell at the dog and “spank†him quite hard. I was instantly upset and motioned to the receptionist who tried again to get her put in a room. She said she would “take care of itâ€.

It was obvious at this point that this was not the first time she had hit the dog. As soon as she did it, the dog knew instantly what response she wanted and immediately behaved. This only lasted a short time and then the dog was getting rambunctious again. This time she yelled at the dog “youâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]re hurting my back, stop it†and punched the dog in the back twice. Not very hard; but still inexcusable. Again the dog relaxed.

At this point I couldnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t help myself. I said, “Please donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t hit him, itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s not his fault. He doesnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t know how big he isâ€. Her response was “you hold him then, I nearly sprained my arm in the parking lot!â€.

After that I had to pay the bill and leave as Misty was getting very upset because of the dog (he was very loud) and she is my 1st priority. I donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t know what to do. As soon as I got in the car I burst into tears for that poor dog. I wish the vet would give me her name (I know they wonâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t) so I could report her. I donâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t think theyâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ll report her either; theyâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ll lose her as a customer.

I wish there was more I could do for the dog. I wish more people would research the breed they are going to get before it becomes a problem.

I am sorry this is so long but I had to get it off my chest, I barely slept last night. I hope the dog is ok.

What would you do?

i would have suggested she find an obediance class quickly "before you get reported for animal abuse" and give her the look and see if she got the hint. whats she gonna do hit another human? Nope my guess is she isnt that brave, it takes a coward to abuse an animal. I am pretty outspoken with my opinions, i just dont really care what people think, what are they gonna hit me? BOOO freakin hooo, not like that hasnt happened plenty of times before! My family hates to take me and my brother in law anywhere, he acts the same as i do, and we often get ourselves into trouble because if we dont like what we see we say it, but usually we get our way.

We feel the same way as you do too! We hope the dog will be okay

There are so many ways of disiplining an animal without hitting it. Poor dog
