No Richardson for Prez - are the Dems making a mistake?

I FINALLY got to the point of taking a good, hard look at NM Gov. Richardson's info. (of course, I started with Clinton & Obama first ) and I think that the Dems might be overlooking the best man for the job -
* experienced in foreign affairs - hostage negotiator; US Ambassador to the UN & Secretary of Energy for B. Clinton
* governor
* diverse upbringing - good knowledge of global issues
I do like Obama's speeches - they are very moving, but being a commonsense country girl, when the "bells & whistles" are the most attractive part of the subject, I take a second look at how the practical side works...
IMO, the Dems are too quick to line up behind the PR for Clinton & Obama, and not look at how they perform on the REAL issues - Obama does have the $$$$$ to put on a great show, though

That's usually the case, unfortunately. The actual best candidate for the job rarely has the clout or money to last long in the primaries. I was really hoping that it might be a little different this time since there isn't really a foregone conclusion candidate on either side, so voter turnout is up by a lot.

Even though I generally (almost always) side with Republicans, I could have totally supported Richardson. He has a good head on his shoulders and has done a good job with New Mexico.

Richardson maybe would have been better.
I know that many of the guy here even though the union is already pulling for hillary most of them wont go there. Just like last time with kerry.

Ok, I have to comment here, as I live in NM and voted for Richardson for Gov.

I am disappointed in him. Lots of promises and no results. Valanhb what good has he done for NM that you have seen as a neighbor to the north?

We are right down the at the bottom of the "good" lists and the top of the "worst" lists. We are usually right above or below Louisiana.

Crime is out of control in this state. Infrastructure is horrible or non-existent, poverty is rampant, education is failing.

He has made some trade deals with some big business men from El Paso and Juarez that have made a very few extremely rich and are being touted as saving graces for NM. They are not what they have been portrayed to be.

The deals for the movies studios have benefited the state. Eclipse aviation is great, but I believe Eclipse is been more of the ABQ mayor's doing than Richardson. The same goes for Tesla if the ever get to ABQ. The space port is costing Dona Ana county residents and visitors a small fortune in taxes ( and now they have a faulty environmental impact statement...surprise).

Richardson is supposed to be relatively "green" but considering the amount of sun and wind we have in this state the alternative energy here is way below "green". State sponsored rebates for alternative energy sources are nil compared to other states. Never seen a wind farm here, though we have a couple of places in the state where the wind just never stops blowing. Still having the big push to drill on Otero mesa and Valle Vidal, two of the few truly wild places left here. The few GRIP projects that did get completed before the money ran out were the roads that benefit the oil and gas industries.

I was really excited about Richarson. Now I am disappointed and don't trust him one bit. It makes me really sad to say that too. He is a good diplomat, but not a politician in my opinion

Thank you for the well-written commentary Now I don't feel so bad that he's dropping out of the race.

I listened to Obama last nite - I like him enough that if my Republican candidate doesn't get the nomination, then I just may give Obama my vote.

I've heard that Richardson may get chosen for the VP spot

I think Richardson would make a really good VP.
He'd balance out Obama well, since Obama has the charisma and Richardson has the foreign policy experience.

Wow - that would be a great combination! I really enjoy reading Obama's speeches, although I know that's just "bells & whistles"....just look at what's happened since the writer's strike
