I was wondering if catnip is safe for cats that have asthma. Is there benefits or cautions to it?

I give it to Coco all the time and she has Terrible Asthma. She is almost 16 and has Asthma for years. She loves Catnip and it dosent bother her. How long has your Cat had Asthma and is it on Meds.

Lilly has asthma and she absolutely LOVES her catnip. I've never noticed a correlation between the nip and her attacks. She gets a little bit of nip everyday.

Pollen in the Spring and Fall are usual causes of her asthma flare-ups.

Wellington has asthma but enjoys his catnip and I have never seen any correlation. He is on prednisone every other day.

Catnip shouldn't really affect your kitty's asthma, those which have had it for years will prove it.

My dearly missed Tigger had asthma, and she used to go wild over catnip without any side effects.

Thank you to all who responded. I just wanted to make sure that catnip wouldn't make my cat's asthma worse. I will gladly give her some now, she loves it.

I suppose I would avoid the spray type...

Harvey never had any correlation between his asthma attacks and catnip. However, sharky makes a good point. His asthma did get worse around any kind of scented sprays, so a catnip spray may have done it. (I don't know for sure...I never used the sprays.)
