but since JoJo's week of groomer and vet, she's beem over grooming... I first thought it was just another habit of her little Kitty OCD developing... but I caught my first flea tonight... little buggers... literally.

So, I know to get one of the good treatments from the vet, which I'll call in the morning... Wish I'd caught it last night, I was out in the area of the vet today...

But as for treating the home... I know a fogger will be best, but I'd rather go with an organic one, instead of a nasty chemical one...

anyone know of a good fogger?

This is going to be fun... getting the cats out of the house, during the rainy season, to fog the apartment... oh joy. Maybe I'll use the kitty stroller instead of the carriers... take them somewhere they may enjoy... heh... er, maybe not. but i'll have to take them somewhere... once I get the medicine started...

Foggers, anyone?

Thanks everyone... in advance.

*grumble grumble... hhmmm... no more taking them to the Petsmart groomers, I guess*

Oh that's frustrating! I don't have any advice on foggers. Just wanted to say hi and I'm sorry your poor kitty got fleas.

So, I called my vet for advice and such... their pick was Advantage, nothing else. Since I'm not dealing with other 'critters' I can stick with that one... she also said not to use a fogger, of any kind. She said that Advantage works that the med is on the dander that flakes off naturally... when that hits the carpet, the fleas feed off the fallen dander and die from the medication on it... I have to do it for at least three months... so I'm stuck with the little ... ahem ... buggers for now (wanted to use a different B word).

Now i know why Jack has been sleeping on the dining table... he's trying to escape the fleas on the carpet.

Amanda, if you can get some Diatomaceous Earth (human/food grad) to sprinkle in your carpets it will kill the fleas and any hatchlings there. DE is very safe for your kitties even if they ingest some (the worst it would do is kill any internal parasites in their system which is a good thing). I found my DE at the garden centre.

I've read that... my problem is that I have very little carpet showing (mostly furniture, but some mess, which I'm working on... I'm a clutterbug), so I don't know how many I'd get.

I have been eating garlic, and found a body wash yesterday with lemon in it (both also repel the little buggers). JoJo isn't over-grooming like she was, although Jack is occasionally doing the 'gotta get the itch' cleaning. I'm trying to keep them from the only remaining 'food source' in the apartment, i.e. me. Hence the garlic and lemon. I know not to feed garlic to them... I've been googling for remedies... plenty to help with dogs, very little for cats or humans.

I had garlic toast for breakfast... and the apt. still smells like it... heh heh heh...

You can sprinkle some of the DE down into the fibres of your furniture as well. Just make sure you get it down into the fibres (I'd just use my hand to sort of rub it down into the material). Same for any carpeting showing - sprinkle the DE on the carpeting, then take a broom and brush it down into the fibres.

I would then vacuum my furniture after a few weeks to get most of the DE out. It's great stuff. I sprinkled it across all my doorways in the spring and summer to keep the ants away and it worked beautifully.
