My cat eats ony dry food. About once a week or so, he comes in and eats some dry food, then throws it all up immediately. It's only a minute or so after he finishes eating. The food has hardly changed at all, it's just ground up. A few minutes later, he acts perfectly fine, but does not eat again. Several hours later, the same day, he eats the same food without any trouble.

I would say this happens an average of once a week, but it varies. It's been going on for almost a year. It happens with any brand of dry food. He never acts sick or lethargic at all - he still plays like a kitten at the age of 7. Any ideas on what might be the cause of him vomiting the food immediately after eating?
Thank you

Is it possible that on those occasions he is just eating too much and throwing up because of that?

Or, could he be eating a bunch of dry and then drinking a lot or water? This is what my Coco did when I first got her. The water causes the dry food in the stomach to expand until it doesn't fit anymore and up it comes.

what brand is he eating ... many grocery brands will double or triple size since they puff them with alot of air ... most premiums only expand about 50% ...

have you tried elevating the dish or serving him on a flat dish

Thank you for your replies. He was eating just now and I went to watch him, but when he noticed me he stopped eating and came over to me. He picks up one piece each time and seems to try to chew it with his head straight out, not bent down over the bowl. Some pieces fly off and land on the floor. I guess I'll take him to a vet this week. The current bag of dry food is Trader Joe's Premium Chicken Cat Food.
