Well not reallly hates, but from the stuff he does it seems like it sometimes haha.

Every day for the last week, I've come home to see that my 5 month old kitten has knocked over my lamp in the living room. Nothing else is knocked over or torn up, just this lamp. I don't know if hes running around and tripping on the wire behind the couch, or if he jumps up there and knocks it off. I do knwo that its making me more mad each time he does it. And I'm sure my neighbor down stairs loves hearing it hit the floor each time.

I dont have any ideas on how to stop this, I guess this is just a rant. I wish he would grow out of this stage quickly.

Kittens will be kittens and at 5 months, that stuff is going to happen. Unfortunately outside of removing the lamp, I don't see much of an option. I will tell you that my kittens (almost 9 months now) have chilled out CONSIDERABLY in the past two months. They still run around and chase each other, but instead of 8 times a day of doing the Indy 500 around the house, we're down to about 2 or 3. Give it some time, the playfulness will wear off some.

The best thing to do in these situations is to find something that they enjoy and are drawn to to replace the object of desired destruction. Maia has a window perch, it is a 12" wide perch, carpeted, where she can watch birds and bask in the sun, with a ramp access, that she absolutely adores! She is almost 2 now, but it has been and still is her favorite place! It is so important to give them entertainment options while we are away, toys, window perch, snuggle areas, as well as plenty of interactive play time.

The lamp has become A CAT TOY.

Time to put the toy out of sight for a while - is there a different lamp you can use in it's place in the meantime while you find cat toys that will keep your little friend occupied during the day?

Thinking outside the box a little, can you secure the lamp down? I was thinking those little 3M strips that you can use to stick things on the wall with hooks, I can't think of the name right now. They sell them in poster strips and what not, and they come off really easy if you just pull the strip. If the lamp is getting knocked over by accident, then maybe that would be just enough stickiness to keep it in place, and it would be easy to remove later on.

There's also a kind of putty that museums use for exhibits. Is there an art museum in your community? They might be able to help.
