I have a beautiful female Persian cat named Kitty. She is currently in heat. This is not the first time...She has gone into heat before, but it would last about a week and then it wouldn't happen again for a very long time. Not this time. In fact, this appears to be the THIRD time she's been in heat in less than three weeks. Recently she has begun SPRAYING urine on walls and other things. Seriously not cool. Anyway, You will all probably want to start asking why the heck she hasn't been spayed/fixed etc. This is where I need help. Kitty is a stray that I took in from off the street. By the vet's estimation, she is most likely older than 10 by now. Is it okay and safe to spay a cat at her age? Or does age not matter? Why her previous owner didn't have her spayed is beyond me, but I do know this: her constant calling/crying and urine spraying is pushing me towards insanity.
What should I do?

Your vet would most likely do some bloodwork on her to determine if she has any underlying issues before doing the procedure. If he/she doesn't mention it, make sure you do.
If there are not any underlying problems, then I can't see why she could not be spayed. Probably the sooner you make the call, the better for your sanity,

we just had a 10 y/o male cat fixed with no problems! might suggest you get a Feliway plugin to help with her issues until her hormones calm down after the spay
