I have a beautiful female Persian cat named Kitty. She is currently in heat. This is not the first time...She has gone into heat before, but it would last about a week and then it wouldn't happen again for a very long time. Not this time. In fact, this appears to be the THIRD time she's been in heat in less than three weeks. Recently she has begun SPRAYING urine on walls and other things. Seriously not cool. Anyway, You will all probably want to start asking why the heck she hasn't been spayed/fixed etc. This is where I need help. Kitty is a stray that I took in from off the street. By the vet's estimation, she is most likely older than 10 by now. Is it okay and safe to spay a cat at her age? Or does age not matter? Why her previous owner didn't have her spayed is beyond me, but I do know this: her constant calling/crying and urine spraying is pushing me towards insanity. What should I do?
