Cat Vomit

Bella has been refusing her food over the past few days. I've been feeding her a raw diet for about two months now, exactly as recommended by Anitra Frazer in her The New Natural Cat and until now she has been devouring the food with glee. Her coat is shinier, she sheds less and her disposition is much improved. She's a pretty scaredey-cat kind of girl.

The problem started with the new batch of food I made. I think the meat might have been going off when I made it up. She ate it the first day, but turned her nose away shortly after. i have tried last night and this morning to feed her a store bought frozen raw meal from AmorÃ[emoji]169[/emoji], but she began vomiting shortly after eating, both last night and this morning. She's clearly still hungry though.

Our plan now is to feed her Slippery Elm in chicken broth to try and settle her stomach. If that fails it's off to the vet's. I was wondering if anybody has had any similar experience and might offer up an opinion or idea which I'm not considering.

I find feeding my cats boiled fish or chicken with rice helps settle their stomachs when they feel poorly.

Hope this helps..

Well the slippery elm did no good. She stopped eating a few days ago and the only thing we could get her to take was a bit of yogurt, which is her Achilles' heal, but it cam up shortly afterward. It was off to the vet today for some IV fluids and Zantac to settle her stomach, but she still will not take food. I'm quite worried now and hope we can get her to eat something soon.

Have you tried giving her chicken baby food? Make sure it is just chicken and not the chicken dinner with vegetables or other stuff. I get the Gerbers stage 2 with just ground chicken, water and corn starch in the ingredients list. to Bella.

The vet sent us home with some hypo allergenic food, but whenever she smelled the food she would vomit bile. She's back at the vet's for overnight treatment and observation. It has been several days since she has eaten now and the situation is dire. We hope to hear news of the blood work tomorrow afternoon.

Very anxiously waiting,

After several days at the vets and several hundred dollars in tests and care, it looks like Bella has swallowed something which she cannot pass and there'll likely be some surgery to remove whatever it is. The timing on all this couldn't be worse with the baby on the way in just two months now, my wife off work and myself underemployed at the slow season. We've had some really stressful days recently, but somehow knowing what the problem most likely is is reassuring. At least we now know how to proceed.

Many tests and sleepless nights later (not to mention an insanely large vet bill) Bella is happy to be back home and is beginning to eat a little. We should have the biopsy results soon and might have some idea what the ƒµ¢<! happened that nearly killed her. If we hadn't taken her in to the vet for the I.V. alone she would have died from fatty liver. Barium indicated a blockage in her stomach, but exploratory surgery found only inflammation and a little hairballing in the opening to her intestine.

She's very happy to see us and is beginning to eat a little now.

I need some sleep!

Sending lots of vibes that Bella recovers quickly...and that you get some good sleep and the worrying can stop.
