Im a newie and I need some help!

Thread Starter
hey i'm new my names Jenni, I'm 20 y/o and i live in Australia. I have a gorgeous 3 month old kitten called Teddy. He's light ginger (although sosmetimes u would think he is grey as he rolls around in the garage) and hes a little fluffball of energy. I need some help!

Lately he has been peeing on the floor. He has used is litter tray since he was tiny but it is like he is getting lazy. Also, there is no smell to the pee. Is this common in young kittens?Sometimes he goes in his tray, sometimes not. I clean it out regularly and i have put vinegar in the places he has peed so far but he is finding more places. I dont want to put vinegar all over the house. Will he grow out of this? Please help!!

Hi, welcome to TheCatSite Jenni.

Has Teddy been checked by your vet since he started this behavior?
You might want to do that to rule out infection.

Please read the sticky thread at the top of TCS's behavior forum about Inappropriate Peeing.
You can also post your own thread there about this problem there.

As you learn your way around the site, if you have questions, just click on my user name, send a private message. I will get back to you asap and help if I can.
Make yourself at home.

Cat Litter Attractant works well and Nature's Miracle helps them from peeing in the same spot and doesn't have a strong smell. Have you taken him to the vet to rule out an infection?

Oh, and WELCOME!!!

Hi there!! Welcome to the site I also recommend having him checked out by the vet. Alot of times, its an infection or something that makes them do that..Good luck and sending vibes that its nothing serious

I would also recommend that you get Teddy checked out by a vet first.

If he comes out with a clean bill of health, you might try a few things. First, he's still pretty young and sometimes kittens don't realize that they have to go until they really really have to go, and they'll just go where they are. So you might try having some small boxes all around, or where he plays most often, to try and make it so he doesn't have to go too far to go to the bathroom.

Also, how clean do you keep the litterbox? Some cats like their boxes extra squeeky clean and will refuse to use even a slightly dirty box. Also, some cats like to pee in one and poo in another, so again more boxes might be in order.

If it turns out to be more of a behavioral thing, then retraining him to the litterbox might be in order. You can use a bathroom and something like Cat Attract litter (I don't know if you can get it in Australia but maybe some of our Aussie members can help you there with an alternative). Then as he improves on his litterbox habits, you can let him into a slightly larger space, and so forth until he has run of the house again.

Good luck, I hope you find something that helps!

hi Jenni, I am a newbie as well and I live on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.

I was just wondering............are you using the same kitty litter as before or have you changed brands/types .
Sometimes cats get their "noses out of joint" when you change the type of litter and refuse to go to the toilet. If that is the case, try mixing the old type kitty litter with the new one at first.
If that isn't the case....like the others who have posted, it might pay to get Teddy checked by the vet for possible infections.

Is the litter box in a quiet area free from traffic?
Is there another pet?

Anyway good luck and welcome to the site.

Enzo had problems like that until he was around 6 months old. I'm not sure why, but he was terribly picky about his litter box. It has to be SPOTLESS!!! He would pee on my BED if it had one clump of pee I would try some different cat litters and see if that helps (And take him to the vet if nothing changes).

Welcome to TCS!!! I hope you love it here!
