I have 2 male cats that are about 6 months old. They were both neutered on Wednesday, with no complications or problems. They are now home and just seem so listless and tired. I know it has only been 2 days, but I miss my feisty little boys. All they want to do is sleep, and one of them doesn't want to be in the room with us. This is very different from the way they were before. They were constantly playing and fighting and bugging me too death!! I have heard some say that cats really change after neutering, but what can I expect?

My boy was neutered at seven months (as he got sick in time for his first appointment!) and was back to normal again the next day. Usually even the female ones pick up after 3-4 days, so it's unusual that your two are still so listless - but then all cats are different. I would consider bringing them back to the vets if they don't get their energy back in the next day or so though, rather safe than sorry!

Thanks! My husband thinks I'm imagining it, but they seem "blah" to me. I'll call the vet if they are not back to normal by Monday.

Well, that has only been two days. Persi was not back to his normal fiesty self for 3 or 4 days so give it a little more time. Once he was back to his normal self, nobody could tell any difference in him at all!

Thanks. They are sleepy boys today. Hopefully, they will be feisty again soon!

Geronimo just got neutered about 2 weeks ago, and I was able to bring him home the same day (but that's rare: the vets usually don't let you bring them back home till the next day. But Geronimo had "special" circumstances, and I was worried about leaving him overnight so the vet let me bring him home the same day>
). Anyway, he was already running around like the lunatic he is that same night. All my furbabies were back to "normal" the same day or the next..

If you're concerned about your babies, call the vet to see what he thinks. It usually doesn't take more than a day or two before they're back to normal again...

Thanks all. They seem much better now. Eating like crazy and playing more.

That's good to hear. Blossom was the reverse, after the 2nd day I had trouble keeping her quiet.
