Hi cant exactly sit in front of pc right now, but any advice is appreciated !
My cat just gave birth to a surprise kitten ( she was over at my friend shouse a couple of months ago , a friend who has two male cats in her hopuse which she told me were neutered (not it now appears!)
Only yesterday did I think my cat (who is really a kitten as shes only 6 months old) looked a little tubby.........
Anyway she dropped a kitten onto the floor and promptly walked away. I delivered kittens when i was 14 years old so i knew how to step in. i quickly got a box put on gloves , put kitten in box with my cat who ignored and wouldnt tear off placenta matter and stuff. finally with kitten startign to go limp and cold I removed the sac and put sac and kitten upto mother cat, who ignored it.
My cat is currently lying in box looking relaxed but ignoring kittens and its mewling cries and attempts to suckle.

What do I need to do immediately to help the poor thing ?

(Ive got the heater cranking so its warm for 'it')

Thanks guys !!!!!

You need to get that kitten very warm and keep it warm. 90 degrees would be best. You need to get KMR into it- that is replacement milk for kittens. You will have to bottle feed it once every hour right at first, and stimulate it's bum so it will poop and pee. The best way to stimulate the bum is with a damp roll of cotton (soak it in warmed water) to stimulate mom's warm tongue.

Your cat is to young to have the mothering instinct kick in, try putting the kitten close to the mom's teat to see if it will suckle or not. You want to keep this kitten warm, you want to stimulate it ever so often so it doesn't just drop off and die. It needs its mom badly. If mom won't let it nurse, you have to bottle feed.

It is much more difficult to have 'surprises' like that when you get your pets spayed or neutered. Good luck with the kitten.

Gee, Umm, No kidding. My cat was only 4 months old when she got pregnant, no signs of heat. She was slated to be spayed march 1st when she turns 6 motnhs old. (I had one cat die who was spayed when she was too young so I wnated to wait until she was big enough)

You're telling someone whose ALREADY a huge advocate of spaying and neutering. That's why Im going to catch a lot of ribbing for this from my friends who catch feral cats, spay/neuter and release them.
I spoke to my friend who swears up and down that she paid a vet to neuter her two male cats. I never knew that neutering isn't 100% effective.

Anyway my cat gave birth to three more kittens for a grand total of 4 kittens last night. By the time the fourth one popped out she was licking them all and as of tonight theyre nursing happily away.

It's easy for me to jump to conclusions when you leave out so many details!

I personally got my kitty neutered very young although not sure I'd do spaying as young. This is a forum of many cat lovers, so when you post that your baby kitten is having an 'oopsie' litter, it would help if you added the details so we don't think you were being irresponsible.

Anyways, hope your kitty is doing okay, as well as her kittens.

What do you mean neuters aren't 100% effective???
Is there a way to know? Statistics? Better methods? That's pretty scary - never knew that.

PS I'm not a meanie I swear, I just see and hear about so many accidental litters where there should have been no accident. I understand your situation and good luck.

How are they all doing?
I read somewhere that in an event such as this you can try rubbing some tuna oil one the kittens to get the mother interested.

But more importantly you should concentrate on getting the mothers milk flowing by using your cleaned fingers to press gently on either side of each nipple just as a kitten would when they are treading. This will stimulate the milk supply which may encourage your cat's maternal instincts as well as guide the kittens towards the scent of the milk. If you can sort this out the rest shouldn't be a problem.

You should check with your vet to see what sort of facilities he has to deal with these sorts of situations. He may be able yo help you.

My friend called her vet who neutered her cats and he said its incredibly rare for a neutering nto to be complete(dont know if thats true or if he's just covering his @ss.)
But it may be be slightly true, because when I was a kid my next door neighbor had her kitten neutered and he knocked up his mother. (neighbor was a breeder of Burmese and closely monitored her Queen, so she knew it was the kitten who knocked up the mother cat)

Oh joy.

hey there,

theyre all doing fine. look good and feel warm to the touch. I'm lucky that I live in a 3 bedroom condo by myself so I was able to give my cat a nice small warm room to herself. she's in a large box with them and seems totally content.

im glad the babys and mom are doing ok. I know freshly nueterd males can carry viable sperm for a while. I dont know how long, i heard 6 months. But any male cat that has had both its testes removed should not be producing sperm. If i had a male cat nutered i would expect
it to be 100% sterile. If a nutered cat is still mateing sucessefuly
I would guess that the vet left something behind when performing the surgery. Nonetheless, enjoy the kittens, soon you will hear the pitter patter of 16 little feet as they romp around the house looking for trouble.
