Hi, I am was/am an owner of a maine coon cat. As you all know this breed is a tough big loveable cat. I had my Maine coon for 11 years, he had to live outside for 8 of those years. I live in CT, so in the winter some nights he would come in (some people in the house have asthma) so it was tough. He was a big beautiful 18lb Maine coon. He would always catch chipmunks etc. and was always playful. It all started when we moved into our new house, a random cat came. We fed him, and eventually he became known as Hunter. He was such a happy cat and loved the outdoors. He was recently (3 months ago) killed by what we think was a fox or coyote. We live near the woods and it's somewhat understandable. The odd thing is that we've never had any of them in our yard. Hunter's body was never found, but fur was found, but no blood. We looked in the woods deep for hours and all we found was little traces of fur, but then again no blood. We continued to look until we found nothing. We have posters up etc. for him. But we believe he has been killed. The very sad thing is that Coon cats are tough. And hunter was no exception, he was very tough. He was last seen about 12:30 at night, never to be seen again. There's that thought that maybe he got away, he was just running, but after three months of looking and finding nothing. we seem to know the truth.

- We have moved on to accept that we will never have the best cat back. He had the greatest personality, and he was the best looking coon cat i've ever seen. We have recently gotten a 2 year old coon cat female. She is very beautiful. She is very adventurous and loving. We are going to care for her very well and we have a good home for her. She's an amazing cat. coon cats are some of the best cats in my opinion. While she's no hunter, were going to love her the same.

I will have pictures for you all of both of the cats soon.

thanks for listening guys.

so sorry to hear about your loss. I have been through a similar experience with coyotes, for they attacked my baby girl Sugar, pure white eskimo husky mix, and also Dudie my pigmy goat. Since then i have moved out of the country into suburban life and choose to keep my babies indoors from now on. Hammy and i plan to get a house someday but still i think i will choose to keep indoors. Its not worth the love we can lose.
