I was wondering when this subject was going to come up. How do I feel? I feel terrible for the tiger and I do not care much about those kids. I am not saying that they deserved to die. But, it appears they wanted to know what a tiger would do if you went beyond just casual taunting. They learned, the hard way!! IMO, the tiger helped prevent stupidity from breeding. My friends sanctuary has a sign by all the big cats that reads, STUPID HURTS!!
I don't mean to sound so callous, but when you do something stupid, you suffer the consequences. I keep hearing that the zoos enlcosure was inadequate. Well, this is nonsense. That tiger exhibit passed inspection!! It never failed since the day it was built (Back in the 40's I believe). You keep hearing about this so called 12.5 foot wall. This wall is an outside wall. On the other side (the tiger side) is a dry moat that is 20 feet deep and 33 feet wide. There is no way that tiger jumped that wall, period!! Not to say that a tiger can not jump, but it would not jump that wall, not with a 33 foot wide moat that is 20 feet deep. My cougar is much better equiped at jumping than a tiger. If you look at a cougar, their hind legs are longer than their front. Now I agree, a tiger should not be able to escape the area just because someone taunts the cat. But IMO, these jerks did more than taunt that cat. They shot at it with a sling shot. They were also drunk (an empty vodka bottle was found in their car). It is now reported that a 9 inch diameter rock was found inside the enclosure, as well as large tree branches from trees that are not even near the tiger exhibit. Here is something to think about. Little children walk by this tiger exhibit every day. The scream and run. What a great attraction for a large tiger. Did this tiger ever escape it's enclosure to go after a child? NO!! I am almost 100% certain that these jerks or at least one of them, either went down inside the enclosure or were hanging down on the inside of the wall. Is the zoo at fault for that?? NO!! I am sure there are signs that read, stay off the wall, do not cross over the railing. If they find out these boys were the cause for this tiger escaping and I mean more than just taunting, they need to be charged with murder/man slaughter. They are the reason why that boy got killed. It makes me sick that this tiger was killed. I understand why they did, I do not fault the police for that, but if these stupid kids didn't do what they did, that tiger would still be alive and so would that boy. There are also conflcting stories on when the police were called, but that is nonsense. That is their money hungry attorney speaking. He has no proof, just the lies from his clients. By the way, those boys are not speaking with police either. They have been very uncooperative. They have also been arrested more than once for public intoxication. Yes, stupid does hurt and sometimes stupid does kill. You have the right to be stupid all you want, but if you choose to do so, you must suffer the consequences and you must accept full responsibility for your actions. These boys must accept what they did and should pay for their actions. The zoo is NOT at fault here.
|I just think the whole thing is tragic all around I have to wonder though, if these boys were harassing the tiger, did anyone see it?
and if it turns out that the boy was in the enclosure, what on earth would possess someone to get in a TIGER ENCLOSURE!!!???? These boys had some sort of death wish, and while it's horrible that the one boys had to acutally die, I can't muster up any sympathy
The boys were not seen by the tiger exhibit, but they were seen harassing the lions earlier. The fact that they were not seen, makes things even more interesting. Why? Because they waited until the zoo was closing and no one was around to see them. What would possess someone? Stupidity!! The only sympathy I have at the moment is for the poor tiger. She suffered because of their stupidity. I only wish the zoo had better security. But a sign that reads, stay off the wall, should be all that is needed. After all, we humans are supposed to be superior beings and should understand these things.
