Yes, it's over -- all my worldly possessions are out of the old apartment (where I haven't lived in over a year) and the pressure is off.
The one bright spot in this month of misery was the movers I hired at the last minute: Paul and Greg, both in their late forties, doing this kind of work for extra money. They both had the same silly sense of humor I do, and all the same points of cultural reference, so we had a wonderful conversation while we were working. We laughed the whole time!
We worked together for about ten hours over a two-day period, and when it was all done, we actually hugged goodbye. And as they left, I'm pleased to say that Greg paid me the very highest of Boomer-Generation compliments:
"Carol," he said, "you are a consistently groovy chick."
