One of my cats gets hairballs every once in awhile, never actually throws them up, just wheezes and coughs a bit (and then swallows it again once he dislodges it - gross, I know.
)

I was wondering if anyone knows of any safe supplements to use that might prevent/treat hairballs? I tried giving him catgrass (thinking more fibre would help) but he always just throws up any plant material that he eats.

He's on Orijen (dry) and Wellness (wet). He rarely does this now that hes on the new food, but still does occasionally. I don't really trust the paste stuff I've seen in Petsmart and the like (not to mention he HATES this, I have tried it in the past.)

Any ideas?

I give mine butter. Works just as well as a commercial hairball remedy. They get a little butter about twice a week and so far have never had a hairball
