Hi,

not been on here for a while - broke my neck....long story!!

Anyway, I'm back! Currently thinking about what stud i want for 2 of my British shorthair girls (i'm in southwest england).

1 has been bred from before and had gorgeous kittens but i chose wrong stud apparently....new to all this. So this time being wiser! Maisie is a tortie British shorthair from lines of black, blues and blue-cream. So i was thinking about finding a nice blue or black boy with some wins under his belt. Maisie has excellent pedigree and being shown.

The main dilema is her daughter. As i said i have been advised chose wrong colour stud (lilac) and that didn't complement bloodlines. Anyhoo....poppy is stunning, show quality and a tortie like her mum. But her dad was from a line of chocs, colourpoints and lilacs. What should she be bred to? The blue/black type lines, or the recessive choc/lilac type lines? Any advice would be fantastic!!

Depends on what you are needing (are you looking for show quality). IMO the Blue Brits are STILL the typest of all the colors (in the US especially) - the other colors are doing well, but most times the blues will beat out the other colors in type/standard.

So I would go with a good top quality blue if you want more show type kittens.

I love the colourpoint and also cream Brits

I know over here the colourpoints need better eye colour.

Good luck at your next show

Good luck with your next show. Do you get to "prosepct" at the shows for show/pet people? When I was breeding I'd have a list of prospective owners and who was interested in show or pets.

Even if most will be pets, you should be striving for show quality - not just pet quality
You want to better the breed.

Very true.

Yes i have a list of prospective but only a few as i don't breed much so generally pass enquiries on to Maisie's breeder. We hope for some good breeding quality kittens from her next litter so in which case her breeder is on the list of prospectives!!
