Why do many orange cats have black specks on their lips and gums? I have noticed so many orange kitties with this. Even my moms flame point himmie who is all cream coloured but has the orange on her face has the specks...

Every last one of my reds have black spots on their gums. Scarlett also has gotten them on her nose. They seem to get more of them the older they get.

My weird little Scooter has them. Does anyone know what they are? They must not be dangerous, Fred had them for years and never seemed affected by them. Those 2 were the only ones of mine that ever got them.

They're freckles - just as red haired humans are prone to them, so are red haired cats -it's a very similar genetic 'fault' (no offense intended, just using the technical terminology!) that causes red hair in both species, although of course in humans it's not sex-linked.
