The fever is coming back
Am I doing the right thing by trying to keep him cool, or should I just let him be?

His gums are light pink, thankfully. I checked and didn't see anything different there. I'm supecting the fast breathing is from the fever.

Is there an all-night vet you could call? They might be able to give you a little help.

Please tell Ditto we're all rooting for him.

Have you checked him for dehydration? If you don't know how....snap the skin at the base of his neck above his shoulder blades, it should go right back down immediately.

I'd consider syringing some water into him if he is dehydrated. And talk him into eating a little bit. I'd be cautious with the ice packs, you don't want him to get too cold with a fever he'll probably be bouncing around between cold & hot.

I don't know, I'll look into it.

He's not dehydrated, I did the test and his skin went back just fine. He is drink and eating, not a lot of food going into him but he has eaten some. I'm putting it mostly on his stomach (I read that that was what to do) and am not keeping it on for long periods of time.

Thank you all for your help!
I'll talk to Ditto about how important it is for him to get better.'

Edit: I just talked to him and told him everyone wants him to start feeling better soon. He meowed and meered and flipped over for me to rub his chin.
Bless him, he really does understand and is trying!

Aw sweetie, I'm so sorry you and Ditto are going through this!

I hope he's still eating and drinking.

Sending vibes that he'll make it to the vet with you and your mom tomorrow, and that he gets the treatment he needs - and recovers completely and quickly!!!!

I would really try to talk your mom into getting him to the vet as soon as they can get you in, in the morning! Losing weight and running high fevers is symptamatic of lots of different things. The one that is stuck in my headed is the dreaded "f" word... No one can really tell you what to do over the computer but if you can call the vet sometimes they will give you a temporary solution for the fever... Good luck and please let us know as soon as you find out! I will be keeping you and your BEAUTIFUL kitty in my prayers and thoughs! Heres some good GET WELL SOON vibes!

I had my alarm set to go off during the nigh and Ditto's gone nearly ten hours with no sign of fever with no help from me!
His breathing has slowed a bit (not all the way, but it's getting there), and while he's still skinny, he's back to his normal eating/drinking schedule. I'm going to monitor him closely. If he shows ANY signs of fever/getting worse, I'm bringing him in, though.

He's doing no worse and is still eating. And Alyssa, I mistakenly forgot to state that I was putting a cool ice pack on his stomach to bring down the fever. He's doing better than he was yesterday so I'm not bringing him in quite yet, just keeping a very close eye on him to make sure he keeps getting better and doesn't get worse. If he doesn't keep going uphill I'm going to try to get once of my parents to bring him in - the thing is, if I don't want to if he can get better on his own since I'll be the one paying for it and I don't exactly have loads of sources to pay for vet bills from.

LOL! Thanks! I was wondering if you meant you were putting food on the tummy, and I was trying to figure out what exactly that was supposed to help with! LOL!
