I've just wondered if anyone else has noticed this with their cats, do your cats sometimes prefer the larger cans or smaller cans over the other in the same flavor and do you notice them for some reason liking one over the other with the exact same flavor? Sash just loves Petguard Premium Feast but when I recently bought it in the 3oz cans at the local Giant Grocery store he didn't seem to eat it with as much enthusiasm as before, then I gave him the 5.5 oz (the only one I had left) can the other day and he loved it again. This is so weird, but unfortunately it seems the store is only getting the 3 oz cans of premium feast in now, so maybe I'll have to order it.

I have also noticed this with Wellness Chicken & Herring, he preferred the 3 oz cans though over the 5.5 oz cans. The smaller cans did seem more moist in the Wellness though to me, so maybe that is it? Is there any reason why there would be a difference in the same flavor food but in difference size cans and has anyone else experienced this?

Oh, that's interesting! I didn't know that. I just wonder why he prefers the Petguard in the larger cans? I really didn't notice much difference in the texture with either can with Petguard. Oh well, whatever makes the boy happy.

I wondered why Jamie insisted on small cans till a pet food employee explained that. The cooking time is shorter for small cans.

Once Miezi started to eat small cans over here, she refused food from large cans.

Holden does not like the big cans. He will eat it, but he complains. The small cans? Not a word until he is finished!

My cats like the 3oz Wellness cans also. Sometimes I get the larger 5oz size and they just don't seem as juicy and I also notice the cat's will not eat as much. They especially don't like it when I refrigerate the extra out of the larger cans and feed it to them the next day. I warm it up in the microwave for just a couple of seconds - just to take the cold edge off...but they still don't like it.

I wish they would eat the larger cans because it would save money. Now Forrest, my little feral "eat anything" kitten has started to become selective in what he eats. Before he would really eat anything.

Ooh interesting to know there's some reasoning behind it.. Chase wouldn't eat any of the large can of Wellness I got him awhile back and I was so confused.. I hadn't really expected him to eat the refridgerated portions, but I had no idea why he wouldn't touch the first serving.

Hmm, I never knew that. I wonder if it would make a difference for my finicky eater? It might be worth a try, though the increased cost would be annoying. Too bad they can't sell them all at the same price.

Yup - my guys prefer the NB in the small cans, as opposed to the larger ones. The EVO I feed only comes in the larger cans, but they don't seem to mind as the EVO always has a wet/juicy consistency.

Eagle Pack we only eat from the 13 oz cans, not the 5 oz cans.

Others we only eat from the 3 oz cans not the 5 oz cans.

Cats.....I'll never understand them!

I have a picky bunch too! They will smell the large cans but wont ever touch them. That could be from the fact you can't get large cans in quality food around here! Just crap!!

Glad to see this isn't so uncommon! I thought Sash was just a little weird, glad to know there's a reason behind it.

Stumpy prefers food from the 3 oz Wellness cans. The rest of the cats prefer the larger cans because Stumpy eats less from those and they get more leftovers!
I switch back and forth to keep everyone happy.
