Ziggy had surgery over a month ago, he healed just fine but the other day I noticed a scab just above the area that was sewn shut (he had his eye removed so its just above where they closed up the eye lid). Then just now he came in the room and I noticed blood in the same spot the scab had been, he must have ripped the scab clean off and its still just above the area that he had surgery on so its not along the line that had been opened up. I trimmed his claws and held a gauze pad to it until it stopped bleeding, but as soon as I put him down he began to scratch there again.

is there anything I can put on it to make sure it doesn't get infected? I know I was told to put flour on his claw once when I accidentally cut it too short and it bled, would that work for this as well? we put the cone-collar back on him so he won't scratch again, but we don't want him to have to wear that thing forever! any advice would be great!

He just needs to wear the e-collar until the area heals. Its probably extremely itchy right now, either from stitches or from scar formation. It feels uncomfortable so he wants to rub it. It will get better with time!
