Work is tearing me apart at the moment
It's the run up to Christmas and of course, we don't sell cats around this time because they only come back to us when they're "unwanted gifts". However, it's become very very difficult for us to help the cats that we desperately want to because the entire of our bottom floor has had to be ripped out due to fungus under the flooring. We are down to half a shelter. Our other shelters are full to beyond capacity and all of a sudden we are swamped with cats where we have no space. We've been taking them in anyway.

One of them was Polly. She came in several weeks ago as a stray. Very very affectionate pretty girl and we developed a very strong bond. I was so thrilled when she was going to go to a new home, but sad that she was going to go. However, it all went wrong. She didn't go to a new home. Kid pulls tail, cat gets hurt and bites kid. Parents refuse to take cat. I wish parents would teach their kids not to pull tails. Still, it was looking good for another home. Then she got ringworm.

Polly wouldn't take the pills needed to treat the ringworm - and it would have to be over a long period of time. Over a long period of time, that stress would be detrimental - and especially seeing as it would have to be done by me, someone she trusted. So instead of finding another method to treat her, and so that she woudln't have to be in the shelter over the Christmas and the new year, they put her to sleep.

I miss her so much, she was such a little ray of sunshine in the winter for me. I'm so angry with my boss right now and there was nothing I could do to change it. I feel like I let her down.

My poor sweet little Polly, I wish she could have come home with me. She felt like she was my own... She was perfectly healthy and happy and spent all the time sitting on my shoulders while I worked. I miss her so much

Same situation here.....ringworm treatment in the shelter....over 6 weeks. Some just can't be pilled or wouldn't do well confined to a cage for 6 weeks.

Play happily over the Rainbow Bridge Polly....look for a kitten over there for the same reason as you.

Awwww I'm so sorry to hear that - but it's comforting to know that our kitties aren't going to be alone on the other side
Thankyou for mentioning it here.

Lillekat is so right - Polly will not be alone on the other side of RB, and she will remember you the kind soul who showed her what love was all about. Too bad that the ignorant parents who rejected a cat that would defend itself can't be sent Polly's obituary; Polly is better off than had she stayed in such a home

At the kitty's beck and call
Oh I'm so sorry - that poor little girl
. You did everything you could and showed her so much love while she was at the shelter. I know that you feel powerless to do more, and angry at the shelter for putting her to sleep. But you did all that was in your power and gave her love and kindness.

RIP Polly - you are at least in a place where your tail won't be pulled and can play happily
