Hi All --
I'm new to the site, and I love the forums. I am "meowmy" to two American Shorthair littermates, Oliver and Rocky, who are 6 years old. My cousin rescued them from an abandoned house when they were 5 weeks old. (She's an architect whose firm specializes in rehabilitating old buildings) They had been orphaned, and the rest of their littermates had died. She took them home and took them to the vet, who gave them their shots, wormed them and gave Rocky antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection. The vet then told my cousin and me (we were roommates at the time) to hold them for at least an hour every day to get them used to human contact and to let them roam the apartment freely only when we were home so that they would feel secure. It took time, but they got used to humans and comfortable in their new environment.
Two years later, my cousin moved in with her then-boyfriend, now-husband, who already had a wolf hybrid and another cat, and gave Oliver and Rocky to me, as I had just moved into my own apartment and was looking for a cat or two. They were less than comfortable at first but quickly adjusted and soon became the sweetest and most loving cats I've ever had. Rocky sits with me when I meditate in the mornings and snuggles with me when I get home at night; Oliver greets everyone who comes in and goes straight to me when I'm in a bad mood.
They're extremely intelligent and just a general joy to have around. I love my two furbabies!
