My mother was commenting the other day that she can't believe some people don't eat leftovers and what a waste of food it is.

I don't mind them. I normally cook enough for a few days so we will have leftovers. They are always good for lunches, too.

I do know quite a few peoplethat throw away any leftovers.

What do you do?

Of course I eat leftovers! Like you, I'll make enough so that there are some leftovers...they make life easier!

I'll have to agree with your mother on this one...I think it's a horrible waste of food to throw them away. Of course, if it's salad, or something that won't keep well, then yeah, but otherwise...

I always have the best of intentions when it comes to eating leftovers. but more often than not leftovers just go to my fridge to die. I think something called me momma one time--that is where I drew the line!

Yes I do. I think it's a horrible waste to throw out perfectly edible food when there are people in this world starving and have nothing to eat at all!

I live alone and I don't know how to cook for one person, so I cook for 4 and freeze 3 portions of whatever I make. And if I make something like stew or soup or lasagna or a casserole, I divy up the portions into containers and freeze individual servings for future meals so that I'm not eating the same thing for an entire week.

To me throwing out left overs instead of freezing them is just being lazy.

If you've have eaten a frozen meal of any kind, you are eating "left overs" and that goes for frozen pizza, pizza pops, tv dinners, other types of frozen dinners, or anything that has been cooked and or assembled and ready for you to defrost and heat and serve. Even canned soups can be considered "left overs" because they have been cooked and are ready to heat after heating up. Deli meat or salads too.

It definily depends on what it is. I kow myself so I don't make food in a way that there will be many or any leftovers. I usually will eat leftovers from a restaraunt or from something like lasagne or roast or something else you can only make in huge portions it seems. But general things that I make around th house like pork chops chicken etc, I make sure to only make what we need because I just won't eat the leftovers and I know it.

I always eat leftovers if they've been put away somewhat quickly. No one else here has a problem with leaving food sit out for three or four hours and then putting it away. They're never sick but I don't like to take chances!

it depends what it is and if I cook to make enough for leftovers. A lot of the time I just cook enough for dinner, but if I am making something big I will use it as leftovers and if I make a roast dinner at the weekend, Matt has it for sandwiches.

DH doesn`t like eating leftovers, but I love them, so I just package up what`s left into individual servings and freeze them. I take them to work for lunches - yummy!

There's no place like home
We usually make enough food to have leftovers, and we tend to cook things that reheat easily. I made a big pot of spaghetti sauce 2 days ago that we'll nibble on for another 2 days then freeze the leftovers from that pot. Last week I made a huge pot of soup. Before that was chili.

I work and the last thing I want to do when I get home is to make a meal from scratch. My weekend cooking usually takes us thru Wednesday or Thursday.

I plan meals specifically to have leftovers. That way I'm not cooking from scratch every night. Often I'll have two big meals on the go - one for dinner, the other for lunches.

Yup, since there is just the 2 of us, I usually cook enough to have leftovers for a day or two. Its nice to have lunch the next day to bring to work!

It depends on what it is. Lots of things like soup, casserole, lasagna, etc. make great leftovers.

Other things (spaghetti
HATE leftover noodles, mashed potato) I just can't eat leftover, so I try to only make enough for dinner. Spaghetti sauce I will freeze and use, but not the pasta. Yuck.

Same here! Normally I only make enough for the meal anyway because we tend to not be home a lot and leftovers sometimes sit in the fridge but when we do have leftovers they always get eaten.
