A New Record!!

As many of you know it has been an ongoing hassle with Riley's fur. He HATES combing and brushing, and hates even worse when I trim the mats that he won't let me comb out.

He really doesn't seem to like being petted even, except the rare occasion when he gets on my lap and wants to be loved on. Every time I end up gouged and bleeding. I believe I have some permanent scars from some of the scratches and bites!

Well, Riley was sleeping very soundly last night so I approached him with the Furminator (the most hated one of all) because he was quite shaggy looking. He actually lay there and let me comb out one side of his body for nearly 5 minutes! Of course the minute I touched his belly he started hissing and slapping so I had to quit, but that is a new record for one of our "grooming sessions"!

Thats good news! Finally Riley got brushings without hassle!
Hopefully the grooming sessions get longer & longer

It was definitely an unusual occurrence. Usually I get about 3 strokes of the comb in and I start bleeding

He's awful!

BUT! In other ways he's SUCH a good kitty

He doesn't get in the trash, doesn't get on the kitchen counters or on the living room shelves and knock things over. He plays with his toys only and sometimes a random item on the floor but he doesn't tear up my stuff. He uses his scratching post only and not the furniture. He has such lovely manners when it comes to everything else and even enjoys a bath. Its just the brushing that he hates!

Gaia is the same way, everytime I try to brush her she attacks my hand Luckily she keeps herself pristine and I don't really have to brush her, but she is long hair and I WANT to brush her!!!

I never had a bit of trouble with Alley. She enjoyed brushing but didn't need it because she never got dirty or tangled.

As you can see from the pictures, Riley is a different cat on his bottom half

The fur on his head, back, etc. is black, and fairly short. His fur underneath is very long, is grey rather than black and a different texture than his fur on top, and it tends to mat very easily, especially in his armpit areas.

He's gorgeous though.

He is such a cutie. Roxy and Sofia are the same way about being combed, they're getting better every day but it has been quite a struggle with them.
