I bet a mod will help you get one on here once they come across this thread. It's pretty easy, you have to click edit, go advance, and you should be able to scroll down and choose "add a poll" then you just put in how many questions you want, add poll, and then you can write in your answers.

I've never smoked, I'm terribly allergic. I get sinus infection just sitting in a bar. I can't wait till the laws say no more smoking in any building in the US. I've even gotten sick being in a smokey restaurant!

I started when I was in my early 20's. I started smoking occassionally in college because my roommate smoked but we only did when we drank. I started for real when I was working as a waitress. Most of the waitresses smoked, and truefully that was the only time we could sit down. We didn't have scheduled breaks so the only acceptable reason for sitting down is "I'm having a cigerette". Doesn't make a lot of sense now, but this was 15 years ago when smoking wasn't illegal everywhere.

I don't really want to stop completely, but I do need to cut down. I would like to get down to 4-5 cigerettes a day. I know the health risks of smoking...my father died from lung cancer. The way I look at that is, everything now a days causes cancer. If I heat up my lunch in a plastic container, that can cause cancer. If I use a microwave period, that can cause cancer. The water I drink, the food I eat, the air I breath, it's all hazardous to my health. I enjoy smoking and don't want to quit completely.

I started smoking when I was around 11 years old. Around 13 I started smoking up to a pack a day. I'm 22 years old now. I started smoking because I guess being 11 I thought it was cool...Kept smoking because I like it and it helps me when I am stressed.

We used to take cigarettes from our parents and go hide somewhere to smoke them. Then around 12-13 I didn't really care to hide any more and I would walk around outside to smoke. I started having some older guys I knew buy them for me with my allowance and I would get a carton at a time and hide them in the shed lol. My mom started buying them for me when I was around 13-14 years old.

I don't want to stop right now. It helps calm me down when I am stressed or when my anxiety is bad and I honestly don't think I could go without smoking when I leave the house at this time.

Same here. I saw what it did to my grandmother -she was sick often, on oxygen, and in a wheel chair the last year of her life. I can hear it in my mother's voice when I talk to her on the phone.
She's in denial and claims it's "asthma" never mind the fact that she never had asthma the other 40 years of her life.

DH and I try to avoid being around smokers as much as possible, too. He has asthma and I have sinus problems with easily triggered headaches.
Restaurants and even the little club we went to see a few bands play at couple months ago don't allow smoking at all anymore. (surprisingly everyone politely went outside)

My mother uses the excuse that it helps her nerves too... yet I remember that during the year I stayed with her in Michigan and we didn't have much money, anytime she was about to run out of cigarettes she would become incredibly stressed out. That doesn't sound like something that is helping with stress.

I started smoking when I was about 11 mainly because my best friend thought it was a cool thing to try and I went along for the ride. I quit smoking when I was 37. Now I have developed a real sensitivity to it and get headaches whenever I am around it.

I have never smoked, and I never will. I'm highly allergic to the smoke. When I was really little, I was always sick and the doctor did a bunch of allergy tests. They found out that I was allergic to cigarette smoke. Unfortunately, my dad smoked almost the entire time I lived at home so I was always sick.

I didn't answer the poll because you didn't have an option for a former smoker

I started when I was 16, but quit almost 5 months ago (I'm 36 now).

I took a couple of puffs from one doing the rounds at a party when I was about 14 (back in the Dark Ages). Couldn't figure out why my friends were wasting their allowance on it, and never took another puff. My family were all smokers at that time, and all but my brother have long since quit.

I started when I was 15 or 16. Smoked till I was 18 and found out I was pregnant and stopped cold turkey. Didn't have another one till 2004 and got hooked again and my husband and I quit Nov 5th. He is still having a hard time at it.

I started smoking at the age of 14. I quit a few times and always went back to it on and off. I Gave it up for good when I kept getting sicker and sicker and not getting better. It's been hell but quitting was the best (and hardest) thing I ever did. (Cold turkey) I have to deal with smokers and stresses another way now, (smokers because I constantly want to rip the cigarettes out of their hands and smoke them because I still have cravings all the time, and stresses are the same reason). It's not fun but I'd rather deal with NOT doing it then doing it, it made me sick with Bronchitis and pneumonia all the time. Now I am dealing with not being sick (as much), not having ashtray breath, not smelling like a bar, not affecting the cats or my hubby with second hand smoke, and I am happier because of it.
