How many times have you been proposed to? - Page 2

Seven. Three each from 2 different men, and once from DH, which I DID accept!

The second time was in the late 1980's. I had been dating him for 18 months. He was separated and his "ex" lived in another province with some guy. I told him that he had no right to propose marriage to me when he wasn't even free to do so, and after he was divorced to ask me again. We broke up before that when I caught him in the act of cheating.

The third time was in 2000. However we broke up late in 2001 when I found out he was cheating on me. He ended up marrying the girl he cheated with. I heard from him either earlier this year or late last year. Apparently they were separate and divorcing and he said that the worse thing he ever did was to let me go. He wanted to see me again. I told him that I had moved on and so should he. He cheated once, he'll cheat again. I don't want to live my life like that. So I left him in my past despite still having strong feelings for him.
I'm glad that you could see through those guys, and get on with your life. One of my proposals (actually 3 out of the 7) was from a man who I thought was the love of my life. We were together for 2 years. At the time, I put up with his emotional flakiness, really abuse, and verbal abuse. I guess, since he didn't use profanity, he thought he could justify it, but it was abusive nonetheless. He played mind games on me (and it was a long-distance relationship). One night, when I was visiting his house, he got physically abusive, when I told him (nicely) that it was over. I really, after 2 years of thinking it over, just couldn't move there to marry him, and leave my family; as I couldn't see it working out. I got out of there--and NEVER had ANY contact with him again, even though it broke my heart. It really soured me on dating for awhile!

Once for me, by my DH

Once for me. 12:00 am Jan 1, 2004. He dropped to one knee in the middle of the dance floor right after the countdown!

Still happily together....

I can remember three times.

The first from a guy that I caught cheating on me, and he later married the girl he was cheating with--they now have two kids and are now getting a divorce. His abusive ways drove her to alcoholism. Glad I passed that one! The second was from a guy that I was with for 8 months, until he cheated. The third was from the husband I am currently divorcing because he also cheated. I sure know how to pick the winners!

Hrmn... well once by my ex. Accepting was a bad thing. But I have been proposed to many many times by a very good (and need I say very drunk) friend of mine. I don't think that counts though! I love him to death - but not THAT much!!

Officially 0 but I am married.
I was pregnant, my (now) husband was talking about going to the justice of the peace and said "I guess that is my way of asking". He did not ask, I did not say yes, and we had a wedding about 4 1/2 years ago.

Officially, once, 27 years ago. We're still married.

Unofficially, once, when I was about 18. Had enough sense to pretend I didn't know what he was talking about (even though he was a total hottie, and I was enamoured, he was a compulsive gambler. Even at 18, I wasn't a fool).

I have been proposed to once by my husband.

Once, when I was 16. Told him I couldn't get married because my mom wouldn't sign papers. I didn't want to marry anyway - thanks mom! He turned out to be a total scum. Whew!

Another guy, we talked about marriage a bit but turned out breaking up was for the best. He was emotionally abusive. After he pushed me down the stairs, I finally realized how wrong it all was. Because it was verbal abuse, I didn't take it seriously. Physical - that I understood. God, that was an awful time. Only time I have ever hit another person in anger. I truly thought I was losing my mind for a year or so. UGH. No wonder I'm single

Twice. Both times after the guy ate some of my home made apple pie. One was in jest; the other half-kidding. They were co-workers, not boyfriends!

They say a way to a man's heart is through his stomach!

Scott proposed to me back on St. Patrick's Day (our 5th anniversary)...that's the ONLY proposal I hope to ever have!

Twice... but neither one arose from the right emotions.

The first was from Michael, who had been my best friend during high school. About a year after graduation, he came to my house and informed me that either we were getting married or we would never see each other again.

I was so timid and naive back then that I said yes. I'd had four dates in my entire life -- none of them with him. A few years into the marriage, Michael finally came to peace with the fact that he was gay, so we divorced amicably.

The second proposal was from Rush, my former significant other, who is still (almost 20 years later) my best friend in the world. We had been cohabiting for four years, and I had come to understand that as much as I loved him, I wasn't in love with him... so I sat down with him and said I felt we should go our separate ways. He was stunned, protested, and then was quiet for a few minutes. Finally, he said, "You don't want to get married, do you?"

I didn't. Later, I put Rush together with an old high school friend of mine, and they now have a wonderful 14-year-old son, and I dearly love the whole family -- dogs included.

Just once, on July 29th of this year!! (both of our birthdays!) I accepted of course, he's a wonderful man! We're getting married this comming March. I can't wait!!

My only complaint is he was soo nervous he forgot to get on his knees to propose It was kinda cute! Totally unexpected! I had waited so long i almost gave up on him asking. I can't wait to marry him! I love him to pieces

Five times. The first three were from my three ex-fiancees...quite possibly the three biggest losers in the universe. While I was stupid enough to get engaged to them, my stupidity, fortunately, stopped short of actually marrying any of them.

The fourth time was my husband. After almost ten years together (cohabitating for nine of them), he came into the bathroom while I was showering and said "I've been thinking...if we're going to commit to buying a house together, we really ought to get married." (Aww...the romance... ) I was so shocked I couldn't speak...though I do still have the scar where I cut my leg shaving.

The fifth time was also my husband. It was about a year after the first one, and we had discussed the subject some since then. I was packing to leave for a Board meeting the next day. He got down on one knee and had the ring and everything. I answered him that time.

Just once, by my fiance almost a year ago Only a short time until the "I Do's!" I'm quite glad he is the only one who ever asked, too!

twice, one by my ex bf which was 2 and a half years ago (god that time flies) he left me for another woman that he had never met and now has a child with her (thank god hes out!)

And the second is Trav, we are getting married late next year and I can say that this is right, he loves my cats, he respects that i am crazy about cats, he is also a cat lover. Dare I say that he is crazy, moving to the other side of the world, leaving work and family and alot of friends just to be with me. I truly appreciate it, and i love it when we talk about our new house, kids and cat condos. He just has this spark in his eyes of happiness, even when he tells me he is going to build me a big cat tree.

Yes I love him, I really do

How about some input from a man?!

The answer is five times.
And here is some advice to all you women that make up 90% of this site:

Us men (at least me) enjoy receiving flowers at work. In today's cubicle environment, everybody is amazed to see a man receiving flowers at work. It just doesn't happen. But it happened to me, over and over and I sure did enjoy the attention.
