I'm making a meal that requires wine in the sauce. I bought a bottle, thinking that I had a corkscrew. WRONG! My neighbor isn't home, and it's too late to go to the store.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get the cork out of the bottle without hacking it to pieces?

Do you have a very long normal screw?
Screw it in but it has to be long enough to keep it in top of the cork. Take some kind of pincers/nippers or whatever you have and try to pull the screw out.

Els-

Woo hoo! It worked! You are a cooking
. The top of the cork did break off (that's what I get for buying a $5 bottle of wine), but enough is left to seal it off. Although, it does look funny sitting on the couner with a screw sticking out!

Christy:

That wasn't a cooking question, it was an engineering one!

Well I'm happy you succeeded.
Cheers!!!

Once on a old year's eve my husband and me have been trying to open a bottle of champagne. We started at 10 to 12 we succeeded at 03.00 !!!

So you are more lucky!

Deb, I didn't catch this at first, but when I did, boy did it make me laugh! My brother and male cousins used to call me Crusty when I was younger. Every now and then, my brother still calls me that...

Thanks for the laugh!

Crap! When I was looking through the thread for the replies, I noticed my typo!
Being anal retentive, I had to fix it right away. I see you already caught me though.......
