I finally started my job with the school district last week. Well pay day apparently was today for everyone else but me. Because I had just started my info hadn't been entered in on time so it shows me not having any hours at all last week. I don't get my frist offical check until the 28th. This means no one get's presents on Christmas, I can't pay my minimum balance to get my phone turned back on and my truck's gas light has been on since yesterday. I can't even make it back in to work this afternoon because I'll run out of gas. I tried to message a friend but she isn't online so I'm stuck. I just want to ball up under my covers.

You'll be okay.

My first Christmas Mom was feeling the same way - she was off work with me, Dad had been laid off and he and sis were sick. Mom was feeling very sad when the neighbors knocked on door on Christmas Eve with food and presents for me and sis.

Contact the payroll department supervisor and explain the situation as you have to us.

The can certain cut you a manual cheque for your wages, even if it's only for a portion of them. Today is payday, regardless of whether they 'forgot" to enter your personal data or not.

I'm having a pretty hard time of it right now too. I just declared personal bankruptcy. I'm flat broke and I don't get my disability cheque until the 31st. I put in a request for a Christmas food hamper from the Christmas Cheer Board this year
Usually I'm donating to the cause, or even putting together a hamper for a family of 6. But this year I find myself on the receiving end and if it weren't for them this month I would run out of food before Christmas and have to go without until the end of the month. Christmas presents are the least of my concern right now.

Even if your work can advance you some funds , they need to do that. Your family will understand about the presents. Food, shelter and transportation to your job are the most important things right now.

I tried to ask that but it's the way the district works. When you start in the middle of a pay period they hold that first check and it get's rolled over to your first full check. Stupid really.

My thoughts are with you. Have you asked your boss of an advance on your salary so you can get gas to put in your car to get to work? It's Christmastime - miracles happen.

Unfortunately my cell phone has been shut off due to non payment. The drive to her office is 15 miles.

This will take some pride to do...

But contact your local welfare agency and ask for some interim help until you get your pay cheque.

Back in the 1980's I had to do that while I was waiting for my unemployment insurance to kick in. I had no money for food, utilities, rent, bus.. nothing. They helped me out a little. They paid my rent for one month, gave me money to buy food and some bus tickets so that I could keep looking for work and going to interviews.

I didn't feel very good about having to rely on welfare for a short while, but that is what the service was really meant to be for.... interim help for those who are in need, not a way of life as some now treat it.

Legally, I don't think they could withhold your pay due to their mistake but I don't think you want to cause a fuss on your new job... I feel for you

It's not a mistake (see her later entry) - it's the way their system works. Lots of companies are like this when you start a new job.

most schoolteachers are paid by the state, & the district is sent money from state coffers. it's probably not that they don't want to pay her - it's that they actually can't.

just be careful with those advanced payday loan places there is normaly interest of at leat 30% and $75.00 for any NSF and a aprox. $200.00 failure to pay or Legal fees... you can end up oweing 2 to 3 times the amount you originally borrowed

That's exactly why I'm weary about going to one. Some if not most require you to be at your job at least a month or have a current check syub.

Do you have any credit cards or open a credit line?

When I was unemployed for 4 weeks and running out of money, I paid for things (utilities, gas, etc) by credit card...they also have credit cheques that you can write a check to someone for some interest rate.

It stinks as I'm still very limited on funds, however it did help.

The card I do have is maxed out and 3 months overdue. I'm at a point where it all seems like a constant circle of road blocks. I was out of work for so long I used up most of my resources.

Any friends or family that would allow you to borrow some cash untill you get your pay check?

I had asked one friend for a ride to work today and it showed that she read the message but she didn't reply so I'm guessing asking her for a loan is out. It's hard to go to my parents because at this time they are paying for court fines for something I did years ago so I would have to give up a great deal of pride for it. My step-dad doesn't just loan money he holds it against me till I'm blue in the face. Anytime I screw up or irritate him he throws the fines in my face so it'll be hard but may be my only resort.

It will get better. I've been there. It's so hard when money problems pile up and you have no money to take care of them. Hang in there sweetie.

I know that once that check starts coming in things will slowly go back to normal but it's suck a defeated feeling in the meantime knowing that the light is right there yet still out of reach.

Well I was about ready to do one of those cash advance thingys online. It was going to be 350 and I would pay back 420 by Jan 11th. My mother found out and proceeded to tell me how stupid I am for 20 min over the phone. Which was making me feel so much better considering my situation. And she wanted me to borrow from her. I told her I'd rather incur a bunch of interest thru that company than have to live with my father belittling me for having to help me out of yet another situation. Well I guess she called my grandma to try and talk me out of it. So god bless her soul my grandma is sending me the money I need. Now mind you my grandparents are living off their retirement check which isn't much so I just started bawling like a little girl. In a nutshell my grandmother came through and is helping me out in my time of need.
