Soft food?

So what's the scoop with soft food?
Some people say that cats should be given soft food their whole life, even as they are older.
They say it's not just for kittens, but it offers more nutrition in addition to hard food.
Is this true??

Yes canned or tinned as commonly called ... IS VERY good for kitty as it mimics natural prey in water / moisture leval , protein and fat ...

Take a common made up dry label;0

30% protein
16 fat
10 moisture

likely is 32 % protein , 17 fat

where as a wet food

read s
9% protein
5% fat
78% moisture

reality
protein is 40 ish %
fat is 20 ish %

see the difference??
plus as a whole wet is far easier due to the moisture to digest ...

Okay, thanks.
So, it's fine if I give my 9 month old cat canned food (Friskies brand) every two-three days??
He goes nuts over it, and just loves it.

Friskies is fine if that is the best hell eat and you can afford ...

BUT there IMHO are FAR better foods for the same or a little more$$...

I never really tried anything else. I just weaned him from his mother with that, and have been feeding it since.

this helps narrow names... ie dont want to give you brands you cannot get

Hi, would you mind putting in a few brand names for me as well? I have been looking over past posts for help. My crew consists of two orphaned kittens presently on PetGuard turkey and rice. (they had problems with vomiting and have stopped since being on turkey/rice petguard) About 10 weeks old.

I have several ferals that I need help with. I want to give them the best for their health long term because I know how difficult it is to get them to the vet. All have been spay/neuter, vaccinated and presently healthy.
Age 1 to 4 yrs

I order most pet food from internet so anything you suggest will be great. They have gotten picky. Like a few flavors Wellness. Tried one flavor Natural Balance that they did not seem to like much. Would like to keep them on mostly canned. I leave some dry out for them. Thanks for your time.

do they like cuts in gravy or the loaf style

They seem to like loaf style better. One will eat the gravy type. They were eating whatever we had that was inexpensive while in the colony. Now that they live with me I want to get them the best that I can rather than just fill their stomachs. I like to rotate brands, flavors as well. Thanks for your help

That depends on the formula. I would say that most are of a chunky stew consistancy with varying amounts of moisture. The New England Boil, for example, was easy for me to slice in half and split between both cats.
