Just thought I would share about our tortoises and geckos. We keep reptiles as well, though the population has downsized significantly over the past couple of years. I've held on to my favorites that I couldn't part with
I currently keep four red footed tortoises, and three leopard geckos. I'm usually very active on reptile sites, so this is my first cat site and I'm having fun looking around so far. As a rule, we keep our reptiles in a separate room from our kitties for several reasons. The first that cats are instinctivly curious about anything that crawls, and to minimize the risk of them eating one of our reptiles, we keep them out of that room. We also separate them because our reptiles (especially the tortoises) have natural bacteria that live in their digestive tracts that could be fatal to any other animal if it came in contact with their feces or anything in their housing. So for safety of all, we don't let the cats in or near them. If I can figure it out, I'll get a picture or two up of what we keep

I'll have to get one of the geckos... I didn't realize that I was missing one.

It takes about ten years for them to reach full adult size, if their growth rate is monitored closely and they are adequately cared for. They were about 9 months in this picture, but Muffin, the darkest of the four is now 2 1/2 years old, and the others are about two now. They're really mellow and sweet... especially around feeding time when they follow your progress around the room and beg for food
