Jordan's latest blood test

So it's been just over a month since Jordan had his last not eating incident. It was due to a spike in his blood calcium. He's been eating well (2 3oz cans of food a day & some times a little dry food). His meds are now as follows 5 mg of pred 1x a day 500 mg of L-Lysine 1x a day & another med for his tummy 2 x a day. No more lactulose YEAH The new med makes that less necessary. His blood calcium was 11.8 last time & it's back down to 11.5 which is still high, but better. The rest of his blood values look good other than his cholesterol is high, but the vet feels that is due to eating a strictly FF. He said that him eating FF is better than him not eating at all. This has been going on around 6 months now & the vet said he really doesn't think it's lymphoma, but can not give him any other diagnosis than idopathic hypercalcimia unless I opt to do a surgeory. So the good news is he is holding strong, the bad news is that I still don't know what is wrong with him.

I'm glad to here that he is improving. Wish you could figure out what is wrong.

Hi Rang - good to see you here, you are such a long-standing member with incredible passion and empahty for kitties. When I suspected something was very wrong with Sasha in '05, my vet realized we needed a specialist.Sasha was losing weight and his white blood cell count was very high at 19,000 (!) and the vet kept finding nothing. Nothing. So he esclated me to an Internist and within 4 hrs we had an answer which was a diffused form of cancer and almost undetectable in the body and blood because it was diffused -- in Sasha's case. Is there a way you can ask for a referral to a Level 2 practitioner? I also contacted WA St University School of Veterinary Sciences and talked to a professor's assistant who said that one of their grad students would look at Sasha for free. I was desperate for answers. to you. Fingers crossed for Jordan!

I am glad he is doing better, but such a shame you dont know what is ultimately wrong with him - I know the feeling well. Fingers crossed for you both.

Back in June when he had his first ultra sound at the referal hospital my vet wanted him to see an internal medicine specialist, but they did not have one on staff. The truth is I won't put him through chemo. He just hates the vet so much I can't put him through that. So I've decided that unless they could find something else that would be curable, I won't put him through any thing more. I will do my best to make him comfortable, he's just been through so much already.
Thanks for you kind words.

Ah yes, absolutely he has. I opted for no chemo with Sasha - he had been through too much with the coyote mauling in '04 and probably used all his nine lives to fight back, so Sasha had 6 weeks of a quality life and I felt good about not putting him through any prolonged stuff just not to part with him.
