Vibes needed for my husband's surgery tomorrow

Some of you might remember my post about my husband's hernia patch that was put in 2 years ago and was recalled. Well, his surgery is tomorrow. The doctor is hoping they can just make 3 little incisions on his sides, find the patch, cut the plastic ring (which is the reason for the recall) and pull it out, but if the muscle is to attached to it, they may have to open him up all the way, cut it out and replace it. The first option is obviously the best both for pain and recovery time.

The scary part is, this is the first surgery like this the doctor has ever done. He actually told my husband he will be his "guinee pig". Since the patients weren't notified of the recall, there haven't been many of these surgeries done nationwide. DH's doctor IS highly respected and one of the best surgeons in the area so I'm not THAT worried...just, the guinee pig comment makes me nervous.

So, if anyone can spare some vibes for an easy, not to invasive surgery, I would appriciate it! (Yeah, I'm going to be a nervous wreck for the next few days!)

I can't remember if I read whether or not your husband is having problems from the hernia patch. Where I work, we've implanted many hernia meshes, and (so far, knock wood) haven't had any problems. I was subbing in the purchasing office when we got the notice for the recall. Fortunately, our hospital never had any of the recalled meshes in our inventory, so none were implanted (we track ALL implant lot numbers on our OP record.) Good luck to your husband. I will say a prayer for your husband and for his surgeon, that everything goes well.

Thanks everyone! I'm trying not to be a nervous wreck tonight, but DH is taking it all in stride (god love him!). Of course, he has had more surgeries than I can even count so this doesn't seem to be a big deal for him. And he's making a list of movies he wants to see while he's recovering! Guess we'll be keeping Blockbuster in business for a while.

Yeah, this is the kind of luck we have. Apparently, the hospital didn't use many of those patches, but DH pulled the lucky number. We can't beat the odds on the lottery, but we can beat the odds on this. Thanks for the prayers!
